the more i think about it if we take a cb in the first rd it might be a waste because cbs sit their first year in lebeau's defense the only way a cb wouldnt sit is if he was elite like petersen or amukamara so picking a corner is almost a waste i really think they will go o line or d line first i guess we will see next week:popcorn::banging:

its hardly a waste...thats an idiotic reasoning. its a need now, its gonna be a way bigger need in the near future.

mcfadden didnt sit as a rookie, he was the NB right away, same with gay.

if we draft ras-i or williams they would get in on NB sub packages and maybe time as FS too for a year and hopefully crezdon butler gets some playing time too. just cause they dont usually start as rookies doesnt mean they dont play...especially high round picks

i said almost a waste how is it idiotic if its a need now and that player doesnt play?did u read all of what i wrote i dont think williams or brown or smith for that matter could start as a rookie there isnt a big difference in ability after the first two corners in the draft that being amukamura and peterson after them all the player are very similar until the trird or fourth rd:imho:

imo as of right now i only see 3 DB's (Ras-I, Williams, Harris) who I think we a) have a realistic shot at and b) can step in early and help .. so im not sure who the 3rd or 4th round DB's are that you are talking about ..

and one of those guys is maybe a FS btw so i am lost at how an early DB pick on a team like us who has the pass rush to generate the ROI is remotely considered a waste ..

--- Added 4/18/2011 at 05:30 PM ---

i would not be surprised to see Ras-I start by mid-season too btw .. in theory smith could, but i think he is off our board

We need CB & FS as well as a backup for Troy. Richard Sherman is a big CB who might move to FS which we need. Clark is old and gets toasted and I'm a fan of his.
The best thing that has happened to us is hiring Carnell Lake. LeBeau trust him and he will have our DB's playing out of their minds. We also picked up Donovan Warren for lake to mold. I think the first three spots are Defense. I wouldn't mind trading out and grabbing more picks. Oakland's 2nd & 3rd or San Diegos 2nd & 3rd or late 2nd & two 3rds. We need to get young on D in a hurry.

williams harris smith peterson and amukamura will be gone (off the board) by 31 and 62 dowling isnt worth the 31st pick and the rest of the player listed will be gone that is what i meant by a waste drafting a second round corner in the first round when you can pick up equal value in the later rounds

I highly doubt all 5 CBs will be gone especially how QB friendly this draft is. Peterson and Amukamara for sure. Smith very likely. Williams and Harris I'm not so sure. Harris' stock is falling and I'm pretty sure he'll be drafted in the 2nd.

people are just nervous about harris' size...his stock isnt "falling" he did everything he needed to help himself and teams love his attitude, his speed, and his form...hes just a little undersized.

imo any of them besides peterson nd amukamara could be there....i believe smith is off their board and in my next mock aaron williams is likely to be the pick. i feel that hes gaining some momentum.

i would spend 31 on ras-i, i like him that much and highly doubt he'll be anywhere close in the 2nd...in a perfect world we end up with 2 of williams, dowling, harris, brown, moore, or carter in the first 2 rounds

Williams & Brown, Dowling & Brown, Dowling & Carter Harris & Moore Moore & Brown.

As you can see I like Brown. I Think someway somehow The Steelers are going to get Rahim Moore. Carnell Lake is the new DB's coach and he's going to want his guy unless he likes Williams & Carter better.
I'd have no Problem taking Williams & Carter. Peter King has us taking Harris but left Phil Taylor & Cam Heyward on the Board. I think if those two are on the board The Steelers take the D linman.
D lineman in Rd1, Moore,CArter,Brown in rd 2.

williams may go before smith... i hope this QB battle lets us trade down....
get a high third round for OL/DL

i like the Smith/Willams then Carter/Brown picks..
problem is who do we throw out then.... keenan, butler, gay, mcfadden, clark, taylor?

taylor is usually up at KC's pick. heyward is everywhere on boards.
austin is in there from 23 to 32 also.

Remember that we have Carnell Lake as a new DB Coach. He is respected by Dick Le Beau so much that Dick always used him as an example. Lake will have a say in how & who he puts in the Defensive backfield and its about time.
As for Oline the will take the following in the first only. Pouncey,Carimi,Solder,Castanzo & Smith with the first three being Kevin Colberts wish.
D line Muhammed Wilkerson trumps everyone and Cam Heyward would be a tough decision over Aaron Wiliams.
Aaron Williams does the one thing that no one on the Steelers does and thats cover, turn head around, locate the ball and go up after it at its highest point with perfect body control. NO ONE NOT EVEN TROY P DOES THAT AND THATS WHAT WE NEED!
PS did you see our schedule? I expect at least two(2) CB/DB in the first 5 rounds.

Based on what was reported from Kevin Colbert. Wilkerson and Sorry for this but Solder are the dream along with Carimi.

Start fresh. Keenan looks clueless out there so I'd start with him. McFadden is still a better cover corner than Gay so you might have to get rid of the young one there and let the new guys learn from BMac. Clark and Ike will be around for another 3 years so I don't expect them to leave anytime soon. Butler is our best corner.

he was a CB at michigan...i had him as a 2nd or 3rd round talent....great instincts, should have stayed at school another year though. banged up, didnt time well, couldnt stick with the jets, but hes got good potential

Yeah I liked him coming out and thought he should of stayed 1 more year.
I'm glad we have him and have a NEW DB COACH in Carnell Lake. I see Warren more of a Safety because he's a solid tackler and slower speed. I wish this lockout was over so he can get into The Steelers workout program.

lol who?

William Gay is a free agent and will most likely get signed by Arizona. I'd like to keep him because he's gotten better every year and Ryan Clark & Bmac have gotten burnt more than him. However we just cant get the thought of him being beat by New England TE or ran over by AP.
As far as Clark & Ike. Clark doesn't have 3 good years left he get toasted because he's slow. Incredible brain but time for a replacement and for him to go to Dime Back.
Ike Taylor may not be back. HE might be courted by Houston,Arizona,Atlanta & New Orleans. He's from New Orleans and it was rumored that Houston might really want him.
As much as I want Ike Back I'm ready for a shakeup and cant wait to see what Carnell Lake does.

Good picks above. We could trade up a few spots if the right guy were there (Amukumara), or down if we have teams with QB needs looking for their man. Picking at 31 hurts.

I like the Aaron Williams/Marcus Cannon combo at 1 and 2.

I think the board will change a bit depending on who they take in earlier rounds because they will likley double clutch at DB or OL. Options for 3-7 are:

3-Quizz Rogers
4-Sione Fua
5-Austin Pettis
6-Alex Henery
7-Devon Torrence

I am not sure about Rahim Moore. I think if they take Williams it will be "wait and see." He will be the safety if not the CB, so I don't seee them taking Williams and Moore. Target another CB next year at 1 or 2.

I am guessing they will pick up a DL somewhere and I just took a stab and figured it would be in 4.

Tampa will mess us up with smith/williams cb selections talib is being released.

now it would be more like Ras-i cb at #31 then quinten carter safety at #63

so BPA will take over our selection and we will get a DE or DT at #1 i bet....
then a Carpenter or other OT/G at #2

That's the price you pay when you traditionally pick at the back end of the draft. But that is also why teams shy away from taking guys who have talent and character issues high.

Let's see which teams blink and over-reach for a QB, DB or OL and leave good DL talent on the board for us to swoop in and grab. As long as we don't reach, we will have talent to choose from or trades to make.

I think I am just about "mocked out." I can't wait for things to get rolling.

I hear you about being mocked out but they're just fun. Heres two that are nice.

A Williams,M Cannon,K Ellis,J Pinkston, Cedrick Thornton,Greg lloyd, Devon Torrence.( I'd change the 5th pick to Brandon Bair or Frank Kearse)

Another TAylor,Curtis Brown,Marcus Gilbert,Jalil Brown,Austin Pettis,Da'rel Scott, Keith Williams. ( I'd swap Pettis in 4, Jalil Brown in 5) or I'd take Richard Sherman in 5th.

Great Draft. I love our picks. We got what we needed and wanted. Like I said it was hard to pass on Heyward and they got Gilbert ,Brown & Cortex Allen. Then a LB, Nebraska Guard & 3rd down back. OUTSTANDING. 6 out of 7 were draft visits.
