View Full Version : My opinion of Steelers draft

I think the Steelers should trade out of the 1st round and pick up a mid to early 2nd round pick along with a 3rd round.
With that 2nd round pick, get CB Ras-I Dowling from VA. The late 2nd round pick get G Benjamin Ijalana from Villanova.
The two 3rd round picks get DT Lawrence Guy of Ariz state and CB Curtis Marsh of Utah state
4th round would be great if G Marcus Gilbert of Florida is still available.
5th round get a Kicker, Alex Henery of Nebraska, who can also punt.
6th round OT Chris Hairston of Clemson
7th rounf Noel Devine WV Speed scat back
Go ahead and tear this up

I kind of like where we are at. If we trade down (which i would be against) I hope its no more than 10 spots. the defense is too old to sacrifice top picks for more picks. i know amassing picks seems like the way to re-tool a defense, but i prefer the one and done approach. pick at least one solid gold prospect and forget about it, move on to the next round and need.

this is one of the only years im in favor of a trade down...usually id hate it but picking up more 2nd rounders or a first next year would be ok with me.
Ijalana and dowling might go higher than you expect though, i wouldnt count on them being avalable late in the second

I would only be willing to trade down if we have a great offer. We are just so hit and miss with rounds 2-4 that I would be a little nervous. Sure we picked up Woodley in the 2nd, but also Colclough in the second, Wallace in the third, but Urbik in the third. Hood is the closest thing to miss we have had for round 1 and even he seems to be coming around and playing better than expected.

I normally don't like trading down either but this year since we're at the bottom anyways if we could trade down a few spots to get a high 2nd rounder and keep our current later 2nd rounder we could make out like a bandit.

Who knows, maybe Pittsburgh West will be interested in the first rounder so they can snag a quarterback.

I agree that trading down should be the approach this year if there is not a premiere player available at pick 31. We could easily pick up an extra 2nd and 3rd or 4th. Then we could get O-Lineman and a couple DBs' without having to pay too much for them. I think there are some great DBs and Lineman in the 2nd and 3rd rounds. If we did trade down to get an extra 2nd, then we could trade one of the 2's to get even more picks. Prolly will not happen, but NE does it just about every year, thus they always seem to have 9-12 picks a year while drafting some quality players.

Noel Devine will be long gone by the 7th. I'd be shocked if he wasnt picked by the 4th.

I think Steelers will now take Ras I Dowling in first or trade out of 1t into upper 2nd for an extra pick. They cant trade back too far if they still want RAS but if they're more concerned with the extra picks then this is who they can trade with.
Ari 2nd & 4th 38 & 102
Tenn 39,109 & 170 for our rd 1
San Fran's rd 2(45) & two rd 4's & 7 (108,115,200) (I'd ask for T Gibson back instead of 7th)
Raiders 2nd & 3rd (48 & 81)
JAC 2nd & 3rd (49 & *0)
