Steelers hire Lake as secondary coach

Monday, March 07, 2011

By Ed Bouchette, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Coach Mike Tomlin has hired Carnell Lake as his new secondary coach to replace Ray Horton, now defensive coordinator in Arizona.
Lake was a five-time Pro Bowl safety for the Steelers in the 1990s.

This is great move, Lake was a such a great player for us. If there is anybody that knows the Safety and CB position, it's Lake. Anytime you can get a former player of Lake's caliber to come back and be a coach you usually make out pretty well.

cmerrified, I edited your post to include the source of the news. Since we have multiple social networking sites feeding off this particular section we want to make sure we have all the pertinent links and info in our initial posts.

I LOVE THIS MOVE:clap::clap: Hopefully he can coach Butler up to par and get him on the field asap and maybe just maybe teach Ike how to catch the ball  I think Keenan should move to safety

Including myself, I also like this move....
Let's see how much we like this after the DB's don't play well and give up some big plays or TD's!!

Hope he can teach these guys a thing or 2

This is such a good move. Carnell was such a great player with the Steelers and on great teams. He was so solid in the defensive backfield, I only can imagine how he can impart knowledge to the current crop of players. This will be fun to watch. Great move Steelers. Keep Carnell in the black and gold, where he belongs always!

Go Steelers!

Smart guy, good choice. I remember Lake had to play corner at times and was always cutting weight to keep up his speed.

One of my all time favorites but let's see if he can coach.

Good move by Tomlin, he thought long and hard and took his time making this decision. Horton had been with us since 2004, it was time for him to move on and give someone else with a fresh set of eyes to coach our DB's.

This really did make my post season to see Coach Tomlin hire Carnell to coach our DBs. This is going to really be an awesome experience for Lake. If there was someone out there that could improve our secondary it is Lake and I would give credit to Woodson too. I wish we could of had both of them sharing their specialities with our guys.

Here is what steelersdepot.com did with the one season Lake was at UCLA. It makes me even more excited about this move.

I agree. Just because someone is a good smart player doesn't make him a good coach. My take is Woodson is bored and it's a new challenge for him. I really would like to know what lakes motivation is. If he really wanted to coach why did he wait so many years?

Best of luck and I hope that he ends up with us until he's as old as Dick. :)

Makes me think we're going to make a move for Rahim Moore...

Could this have us lean to Rahim Moore in the #31 spot...

Moore is a CB / S like Lake was.. very interesting.

This is a great move for Pittsburgh...plus I think LeBeau might have a little bit of defensive back knowledge to share with him.

I like the move. Hopefully his experience playing will translate to coaching ability.
