December 25 Pittsburgh Tribune Review

"The Steelers are home for the holidays, but they aren't about to spread the Christmas cheer after a 27-3 victory over the Carolina Panthers that was dominant yet disappointing. The offense accounted for 408 yards and three touchdowns but left the locker room knowing its ineffectiveness in the red zone leaves room for improvement. The defense forced an interception and four sacks ? including one on a fourth-and-5 at their own 32 ? but dwelled on missing tackles early and allowing a field goal late that prevented a shutout. "We haven't put together a complete game yet," outside linebacker James Harrison said. "That's something we really need to start working on as we roll towards January"

Yea they really need to start tackling alot better, When we face playoff caliber teams, when it counts, we cant afford to have alot of missed tackles, But I guees its better than woodley only getting about 2 tackles a game. Plus we need to get more pressure on the qb, I know troy is out and smith but that should be no excuse. Other guys need to step up.

That's good news, I'd be worried if they were all content with themselves.

Yea but to look at the bright side. I think were better going into the playoffs than the chiefs, Ravens, jets, colts. I think were in alot better shape than them 4 teams, just not in better shape than the pats. I like our chances, just have to get the monkey off our back beatin the pats. In the nfc. I think the packers are gonna win the nfc. They look very good right now.

Yea even though the afc seemed very dominant this year, the nfc has the saints, packers, falcons, eagles, bears and rams(probably). Thery ALL have very good offenses to say the least. Defenses arent as good as ours, jets, pats. But damn can them teams put up some points.

Call me crazy, but I want the Steelers to play the Pats. It's something that has to be done.

If we dont play the pats, us going to the supperbowl will be 70/30, If we play the pats its gonna be 40/60 favored them. But I want to play them to, but this time we put a beatdown on them and hold them to 17 points. IN FOXBOROUGH.

I agree! I said in an early post a few weeks ago, that in order to be the best, you have to beat the best. Plus, it'll give the team some redemption. :yellowthumb:

True. To be the best you have to beat the best.

Patriots aren't the best yet. And they're not even defending super bowl champions. They're just the #1 seed. Yes, they whooped us and it's still fresh in our minds, but Patriots, like the Steelers still have work to do. The best will be decided at the conclusion of Super Bowl XLV.

They are indeed. Brady NO picks in what 319 attempts??

But I wonder is the fruitcake will start throwing picks when it counts, i.e: PO's??

I'm not happy with the Cornerback play,..always giving slack all the time. And I"m not happy with the lack of use of the TE's in the red zone.

Yea they really need to start tackling alot better.

I haven't seen so many "high" tackles since I coached Pop Warner football. Jonathan Stewart is a beast, but guys who were tackling high were bouncing off of him.

Also need to blitz under control. Too many guys were flying in there full speed and taking themselves out of the play by running by the ball carrier or QB.

Very true. Disiplined blitzing.

The NFC is more balanced. Any one could come out of that side (and I'm going to bet that the #1 seed Falcons won't be the one.)

You're crazy. :nahnah:

Steelers don't match up well with New England. Never have really. The years we went to the SB, I don't think we played them, which made the road much easier.

They better correct those mistakes, you can't afford to leave points on the field during the playoffs. What happened to this "talk" that Ben had with Arians a couple weeks ago about how they wanted to be more patient in the redzone? As soon as they get to the 20 Ben starts firing balls into the endzone, 2 of them back to back were the same play and both were overthrown.

It's like Ariand and Ben go into this "OMG we gotta score now" mentality as soon as they get close. Unless you're in a hurry up offense at the end of the half or the end of the game there is no reason to rush. Take what they give you and use your weapons. They are so predictable that teams know what they are going to do as soon as they hit the red zone. Just once actually do a Tackle eligible and throw it to Flozell or Scott, or perhaps Legursky when he's in there blocking. Better yet, do a bootleg and you're almost guaranteed to do 7. Mix that in with your predictable play calling and we might actually get somewhere.

Typical BA offense, BIG chunks only!! I'd love to see some screens to Mendy down there!!

A screen to Mendy, a pass to Heath in the back of the endzone, a toss to Redman who tosses it to Heath, anything. Hell put Spaeth out there and let him go get it, it would be hard for Ben to overthrow that big of a target. Anything besides the same old same old.
