No word on the prognosis at this point, and he did hold for the rest of the game. Tomlin said they'll evaluate it tomorrow and see how bad it is.

This is definitely not good...they better get someone not Mitch Berger or get suisham some more punt snaps...suisham looked pretty good except for the way he handled the snap

Yo this is not good news who do we bring in or do we let Sushi handle the duties?

When exactly did he get the injury? I don't remember seeing him get hurt. I probably just missed it.

On his last punt, a Steelers player was pushed into him while blocking. The player hit his plant leg after he kicked it. I didn't rewind it but I bet that was it.

DSep got injured trying to make a play on a punt return. If we're lucky it will be just a sprain and he can heal up in the coming weeks. If it's really bad, we are in some trouble. Sushi did fine tonight, but we don't want him doing that every week.

--- Added 12/5/2010 at 11:40 PM ---

Onllllyyyyy positive is that this is a contract year for him so hopefully he will stay with us....who do we pick up? Hell teach the kicker how to take the snap and let him go.....We need a first round bye

Just got the text from the Steelers, it's official. Sepulveda has a torn ACL, so he is done. Now they have to bring in another punter, and also find someone to hold for FG's.

Suisham is a kicker. You expect a punter to be better at punting than a kicker

Here's the good news:

We've got three stright home games to get a guy in here to handle the punting. Alot of practice time will be available for whoever we get.

Did we bring another punter in here in training camp?? Just wondering who is still out there now that we could possibly sign and bring in here...I think the Steelers will be fine and whoever comes in here and punts will do the job. The coverage units have been absolutely awesome this year...

That sucks... Sepulveda was having a very good season too. Props to Suisham for stepping up and punting though. I know he didn't do the best job, but he didn't have any blocked and all of his punts went 30+ yards. lol

Chris Hanson is a punter out there with NFL experience.......Can't think of any others right now but whoever it is won't be as good as D-Sep but not the end of the world either.........

lol, what are you guys talking about? Last time we lost this guy the Steelers won the SB...I dont know about this guy. He is the MR. Glass of all punters. I have never seen a kicker/punter get hurt like this guy. I like him but he is hurt all the time....So do we let Swissham just kick punts too?

Mr. Goosemahn
12-06-2010, 05:18 AM
Shame we lost Sepulveda. We had a guy called Dirk Johnson with us during training camp, but I can't recall if it was this year or last. In any case, he might get a call.

Sam Paulescu could also be an option, he played for the Bucs last year but was released after Josh Bidwell recovered from his injury.

This is the third time on his right knee. I think lets part ways and bring draft somebody else. Sepulveda is good, but not so amazing we cant replace him with a rookie that doesnt have knee issues. Who would have thought at the beginning of the season, we would replace both kickers mid-season

Maybe because our special teams suck so he has to make tackles in an open field always... If Reed had knee problems on a non-kicking leg, he would never be injured as he runs away from people always.

I'm assuming that Tomlin will be bringing in Punters today, or if not today then tomorrow at the latest. As far as holders go, they could use Leftwich to hold if they had too. I can't remember if he has any exprerience at it however. You can't use Batch.

Anyone know who the back the backup holder is in normal situations?

Steelers work out punter
Monday, December 06, 2010
By Gerry Dulac, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
Free-agent punter Ricky Schmitt, who worked out briefly with the Steelers in 2008, will be at the team's South Side facility Tuesday and could be signed as a replacement for injured Daniel Sepulveda.

Schmitt, who has been in various training camps with four other NFL teams, most recently this summer with the Tennessee Titans, has kicked in just one regular-season game. He was one of the leading punters in college football when he attended NCAA Division II Shepherd College in Shepherdstown, W.Va.

The Steelers are searching for a punter after Sepulveda sustained a torn anterior cruciate ligament against the Baltimore Ravens and is out for the season.

The Steelers brought in Schmitt in October, 2008 when they were looking for a replacement for ineffective Mitch Berger. That was the year Sepulveda missed the entire season with a torn ACL.

But they signed former Cleveland Browns punter Paul Ernster instead, only to later release Ernster and re-sign Berger, who punted for them in Super Bowl XLIII.

All this talk about D-Sep getting hurt. It's not like he got hurt actually punting..He got hurt making a play down field. Give the man his props. I wish D-Sep the best of luck and a speedy recovery. Hope he gets resigned.

I don't feel for a guy who's getting paid millions of dollars a year to kick a football.

I understand that component; that it is his job. I feel for him on more of a personal level. Having season ending knee injuries twice in your short career and missing out on a chance to play in the Super Bowl on both occasions has to be disheartening for him. I really wonder if things would have unfolded differently for Daniel Sepulveda had the surgery he had in college been better.
