I just started playing around with photoshop today instead of using my usual PSP7...Ive been fumbling around with it for the last 90 minutes just trying to see what all the menu options do..

Here is the first attempt, Im mainly looking for your thoughts on Willie, as I used BR7's tutorial for cutting out players. I just used a generic background and basic font to see how the player looked against it. Thoughts onthe cutout job? I think I fubard on the right side of his helmet strap just a bit...

I think the helmet is good. It doesn't really stand out. I would probably just remove the rest of it, at the shoulder.

The triceps area though on both arms aren't 'curved.' Looks like they are too sharp, IMO.

When cutting, zoom in a ton.. 700% +
Helps when making curved parts. Space em closer together too, or if you want to get jiggy with it, once you click a point, hold it and drag to the next one to get a feel how you can 'curve' the line.

I zoomed in 700, but I couldnt get that curve thing down no matter how hard I tried. I get it on 1 curve, then I couldnt get it on the next

Not really mad, just alittle frustrated is all. I know PSP7 like the back of my hand so it just takes alittle longer than I'd like to learn PSD.

I think this one turned out alittle better with the cut. Again, dont worry about the font, I'll figure that out as I go. I love this blending of backgrounds, especially that "liquify" option, way cool...

I like that one above, Matt. Super Job!!! I don't care for the first one, BR-7 made a point around the triceps, not only that, the lighting on the helmet dims out the numbers. Especially the 3

That cut is 100x better. Even the coloring is better.

Did you use the 'levels' to fix the colors on that one? Or did you get a better pic?

BlitzburghRockCity

I used levels' to fix the color of the player, what a difference !!! I also made the cut out points alot closer together instead of stretching them out so that made it easier to work with the curves, thanks for the tips man !!

$50 per tip

Yeah, I always use levels to fix the colors, to find the brightest and darkest points. I don't use the grey. Now you gotta learn the hue/saturation to get rid of colors that don't belong.

Pretty nice can you incorporate the rear of the car with the camaro emblem and chevy emblem instead of just the emblem?

BlitzburghRockCity

I guess that's what makes a good graphics person, you gotta be picky  I fully expect BR7 to critique it, but I think it came out pretty well. I really went to down on the lighting effects and hues.

BlitzburghRockCity

Trust me it took me 30 minutes alone to get that font the way I wanted it ! Thanks bro, I think it's one of the best so far as well.

I love that old school look on the font. Willie looks fantastic. That background is wickedly cool. I think your coming close to figuring out BR-7's secret to his magical work.

I lost track of which is your latest, lol

In Willies, he blends in too much with the BG colors. The black parts of the BG anyways. And Hines doesn't blend enough.. does that make any sense? lol

Both cuts are great.

I like the font choice on Willies, Wards looks weird, like it doesn't fit, too big, I dunno. But neither one stand out... like they are under a layer or something. Mess with effects like drop shadows, bevels, etc for text... but don't let the font take the focus from the player (size). If you're gonna put the text on two lines, I'd move up line two.

Willies is by far better than Wards, IMO. Both are good and you are making great improvements. PS is a far superior prog than PSP, so it takes time to learn what it can do. Stick with it, you can definately see the improvements on every sig.

Hope I didn't sound too much like an ***, lol. I suck at criticizing others work cause I'm no graphic designer lol.

BlitzburghRockCity
12-18-2006, 09:55 AM
The ward one was just playing around with cuts and making sure Im still getting the right, and trying to learn what all the fonts do; I wasnt going for anything really spectacular with that one, just mainly praticing.

I thought the Willie one I was looking for the main idea to be that the player blend in just a tad with the background but standout overall through most of it.

And yes you do suck as a critic :nahnah:
