Last year around this time the NFL lost a founding father in Wellington Mara of the Giants. Today the NFL lost another founding father in Lamar Hunt the owner of the KC Chiefs. Here is why we should be thanking him he was one of the most influential owners in the NFL for the past 40 plus years and if not for him there would be no name such as the Superbowl it still would be called the championship game. He was instrumental in the AFL-NFL merger. He lobbied for years for a third thanksgiving game and they finally got one just this year but he couldn't watch because the hospital room he was in didn't have the NFL network.

RIP Mr. Hunt

The NFL definately lost a legend today. He's done more for the league than virtually anyone else you can think of. Instrumental in merging the NFL/AFL, he was the main guy for the onset of the 2pt conversion into the league, he coined the phrase, "super bowl" , he's definately going to be missed and was one of the few remaining owners that had the respect of everybody in the sports world regardless.

Lamar Hunt is a terrible lost for the National Football League and Sports in general. He was an influential owner that had passion and enlightment for the sport of football. He will be greatly missed. My heart and condolences for the Kansas City Chiefs Organization, the Hunt Family, and more. God Bless you Lamar Hunt.

IMHO , Lamar Hunt is/was the only owner in the NFL that can be mentioned in the same breath as the Rooney's. They're both from the same era, and nobody in the league today understands more of what the NFL is about than those 2 families. They respect the game and it's history like no other, yet have the vision to move forward so the NFL can be enjoyed for generations to come without losing site of it's history.
