I'm happier with the 4 seed than I would be with the 2 seed at this point. Would rather play the Lightning than the Habs.

I'd rather see them get the 2nd seed. It would be huge after all the injuries, we'd get home ice over everyone except the Caps. The Lightning scare me more than the Habs. Plus my son won't have to listen to all his buddies brag about the Flyers. :) We'll know today iff the have a chance. Go Islanders!

We once beat the Lightning 7-0. We obviously know their vulnerabilities. The Habs always put up a fight. I'd rather beat a team 7-0 than see an exciting game in the playoffs.

I'm with steelersbabex25 on this one: I want the Lightning. The goaltending for the Habs is like an impregnable wall every time we play them. I'll take our chances with the Lightning and hope that Crosby can get back for the second round, although I'm pretty sure that will not happen.

It's all irrelevant now. We've got the Lightning in round 1.

LarryNJ

Yes it sure is Babe. Although if we would have gotten the second seed it would have been Buffalo not the Habs.

The Caps are the team I wouldn't want to face without Sid. Let's go Rangers! :)

F-k the lightning already. We all know they suck balls and they will fall at the hands of the Pens and whoever the Pens get next in round 2 should start sh-tting bricks.

The TV schedule sucks total wang; three of the first four games are only on CBC (for non locals).

Oh well, I'm still growing out a beard.

Well they have as good of a chance as any other team. I think what is going to kill them and the Flyers is the guy between the pipes. I know there has been recent success without having a big time goalie, but they will both lose again because of it.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Buffalo upset the Flyers in the 1st round. I think the Caps cruise past the Rangers, and the Pens win in 6. I have no idea what will happen with Boston/Habs although that's a great rivalry and always fun to watch.

Excellent game. Also, if anyone else is like me and they (a) do not get Root Sports and (b) want to see the game in HD instead of some terrible feed, I have some tips:

1. Install Firefox
2. Go to "Tools" > "Options" > "Privacy"
3. On the drop down menu select "Use custom settings for history"
4. Check the box next to "Clear history when Firefox closes"
5. Click the "Settings" button and make sure all the boxes are checked
6. Go to "General" (same place you found privacy)
7. Set your homepage to "http://nhl.com/"
8. While the game you want to watch is going on, open your browser
9. While on the NHL site, and click the red "WATCH NOW" button for the game you want towards the top of the screen
10. View for ~ 3 minutes at a time
11. Exit out of Firefox and repeat steps 8-11 until you finish the game

Yeah, it will work with any browser, but this is how I've tested it. It takes me about three seconds to exit and get back to a full screen feed, which isn't too shabby.

Friday, 04.15.2011 / 12:45 PM / Penguins v Lightning - 2011 Stanley Cup Conference Quarterfinals By Alan Robinson - NHL.com Correspondent

Crosby skated on a fifth line with Mike Comrie and Eric Godard during the Penguins’ morning skate in advance of Game 2 of their Eastern Conference Quarterfinals series against Tampa Bay on Friday. But the Penguins’ captain is not ready to take part in any drills with contact.

Crosby, out since Jan. 6 with a concussion, can’t begin thinking about returning to the Penguins’ top line until he first can absorb contact in practice. Even after he does that, he must be cleared by his doctors to play.

The Penguins have not speculated when that might be, and they have given no sign that he will play at any point during the Tampa Bay series.

Coach Dan Bylsma doesn’t believe Crosby is pressuring himself to return sooner than he should.

Crosby wore a headset during Game 1 while sitting in the press box with assistant to the general manager Tom Fitzgerald and goalies coach Gilles Meloche.

“I have not sensed any kind of pressure on Sid that he feels, based on the fact it’s playoffs or that it’s this time of the year, to get back earlier,” Bylsma said. “Actually he’s more in tune with watching the games and what we can do and what adjustments are they making and those types of things. I haven’t sensed anything to do with Sid trying to get back earlier, feeling that pressure, not one bit.”

The Penguins, who won 49 games and accumulated 106 points despite playing half the season without stars Crosby and Evgeni Malkin (knee), won Game 1 against Tampa Bay 3-0 on Wednesday.

Crosby had a sizable lead in the NHL scoring race, getting 66 points in 41 games, before he was injured. He hasn’t played since Jan. 5 against Tampa Bay.

Malkin looked like crap at the beginning of the season; he couldn't buy a goal. Before his injury, he started scoring. Hockey can be one of the streakiest sports, so I do not mind seeing a scoring drought if it looks like the guy is close, because the puck will eventually bounce his way. He also isn't on a star studded line, so I would not say that his play right now is the best tell of his true ability.

Actually, you should check Versus and make sure they don't flex the Penguins game in. They might blackout the Caps game on Versus to switch you to the local feed and put another game on in its place. They did that for one of the Coyotes' games this season.

Did you notice the dude in the first row with a Big Ben jersey? Imho you never should wear a football jersey to a hockey game, it makes you look like an jagoff. If you're too cheap to spend the $$ for a jersey buy a t-shirt or wear a regular shirt.

LOL I saw it and the jersey was about 3 sizes too damn small so he looked even more like a dick! lol

Well, this one looks like it is going to **** it a hurry. We get a puck to settle down right in front of the goal mouth, they clear. Orpik sends a wicked shot to the net, it bounces off the post. They get a tic-tac-toe-tic-tac-toe pass play, bounce it off the cross bar, and it goes in. They flick the puck towards the net, and it goes in.

The puck is not bouncing our way today, ladies and gentlemen.

This is a team that looks like it gives up once it goes down by two. There is absolutely no scoring threat without Crosby and Malkin, and the PP does nothing to punish the other team for its mistakes. Hell, if I were a coach for an opponent, I would say tackle anyone on the Penguins if it looks like they might score. They sure as hell won't on the power play.

This team is snake bitten.

Our guys get an opportunity, the puck skitters away or hops over a stick. TB gets a chance, and the puck stops on a dime sits on a silver platter in front of the net.

Our guy shoots from the blue line, it gets blocked and bounces out to make it a 2 on 1 for TB. Their guy does it, and it's in the back of the net.

Our guys get a nice scoring opportunity, and Roloson (by the way, he helped Moses bring the stone tablets down Mt. Sinai when he was 15) is magically in the perfect positioning. They get a solid opportunity, and Fleury rebounds the puck right off to his weak side and gives up the goal on a second shot.

The puck doesn't go the right way, the offense doesn't score, the defense doesn't defend, the only special in special teams is special ed, and Fleury is the goal tending equivalent of William Gay. Even if they make it through this series, they are going to get trounced in the next one. I'm off to shave my playoff beard...

They have what it takes to advance to the next round, but I doubt they have what it takes to make it through that. They could potentially beat Buffalo or Boston, but Montreal would be brutal (they have the Pens' number), and Washington or Philly would probably sweep.

At the end of the season the powerplay was bad, but the penalty kill, defense and goal tending were doing very well. Now, we have no PP, no PK, and no defense or goal tending. For a team that can only score about two or three goals per game, that is disastrous. If I were Guy Boucher, I would tell my players to flat out tackle any Penguin player with a scoring opportunity, because they sure as hell won't punish you with the PP.

I wouldn't go as far to say that Neal is worthless. If he is, I would also say that Letang, Fleury, and Staal are all worthless as well due to their severe nonperformance. Aside from the Rupp/Adams/Asham line, I have not seen another line or defensive pairing play up to snuff. Without Crosby and Malkin, this team is in shambles. No teams feel threatened and this leads to a disparity in the confidence between the Penguins and opponents. Unless the Pens get a quick 2 - 0 lead, it's as if they fall asleep by the end of the first; something I blame on the coaching staff.

That said, I do think that the Kovalev and Niskanen experiments are over. I would like to see Tangradi in for Kovy and Engelland in for Niskanen. Kovy just doesn't appear to have the conditioning to be out on the ice for such long periods of time and Niskanen scares me to death with his passing.

Neal is crazy, one game he shows a flash then the next 5 he's gone. He just always seems a step behind the play...

With Neal I think it is a two parter:

1) He can't buy a goal. It seems like any chance he gets, the puck just won't calm down, or the goal tender makes some miraculous save.

2) He's always being swapped between two lines and four different centers/wingers. Without the stability of having solid #1 and #2 lines, he just cannot gain enough continuity. Remember the year the team won the cup and the kind of sixth sense that Crosby and Guerin had for passing to one another? I think Neal is capable of that, he just needs to be paired up with two solid line mates and be given some time to adjust.

Unfortunately, I think this is no more than a throw away season due to injuries.

One guy who has earned his pay in this series is Adams. If you pay attention, I guarantee you'll hear "blocked shot, Craig Adams" more times than you can count.

Neal will be better once Crosby comes back and he has something to work with. He's doing everything except for putting the puck in the net, but atleast he makes the effort (unlike some other players, who shall remain nameless), and that's all you can really ask for from a hockey player. If he does what he can and the goalie makes some crazy save, he can't help that.

Adams is definitely one of my three stars from this series (Probably Adams, Kennedy, and Asham). I think our fourth line is the only part of the team that is playing well above what you would expect of them.

As for Neal, I think he would kick all sorts of *** if he was paired with Crosby or Malkin.

Next year I would not mind seeing these lines:

#1: Kunitz/Neal - Crosby - Dupuis (if resigned)
#2: Kunitz/Neal - Malkin - Kennedy (if resigned)

Better yet, maybe see the team go after a true RW in the off season. That's probably this team's weakest spot, overall.

The biggest disappointment for me is MAF. Stahl (2nd biggest disappointment) finally does something and we tie the game at 2 and get some momentum. Less than a minute later he gives it all back to them. 2 goals on like 4 or 5 shots in the 3rd period of a game that could move us to the next round. He is supposed to be a star...well stars shine in those spots.

This sounds stupid given the last two games, but I believe that this team is going to pull it off in Pittsburgh. I feel like the defense and goal tending are going to be back where they were earlier in this series, which will allow the team to stay in the game until the end.

The Flyers are a tough team, but I think Washington would be more difficult for the Penguins to beat considering their scoring on demand. I tell you what, if the Penguins could somehow manage to get through this round and end up upsetting Philly, that would be our equivalent of winning the cup: Knocking a team out of contention. For sure. I would like to see some line changes tonight, as well. Replace Kovalev with Tangradi or Comrie (the forgotten man) and Niskanen with Engelland. Supposedly, Comrie is fast, a 30 goal scorer, and he has good puck handling skills. Unfortunately, it is more important to keep continuity in there than to put in someone who actually should have some upside. Oh well, at least our first line will stay as crappy as it has been. I swear, Arians is coming up with the lines.

Definitely. Those three are the only players on this team that I look at and actually perceive to be trying hard, although the third line isn't two far off. That said, I would rather Philly, Montreal, or Boston make it to the Cup than Washington.

The only reason I would say the Flyers is because my daughter face and body paints at the games...so every game they get is more $$ for her, and less she wants from dad! :)

Look for Kovy to be the star tonight! You'll all be glad Dan didn't take your advice!

I would have loved to stayed up and watch the Blackhawks game lastnight. It doesn't get much better than that series.

Time to snap his streak:
Roloson puts perfect elimination mark on the lineWednesday, 04.27.2011 / 1:55 PM / Penguins v Lightning - 2011 Stanley Cup Conference Quarterfinals By Adam Kimelman - NHL.com Staff Writer
8
Share After beating the Pittsburgh Penguins in Game 6 to extend his team's season, Tampa Bay Lightning goaltender Dwayne Roloson was asked if he knew his record in elimination games.

He quickly answered in the negative and said he didn't want to know.

Well, no one show this to Roloson, but he's never lost when his team has faced a win-or-go-home situation.

That includes the last two games of this first-round series, when he's kept the Lightning alive with strong efforts in Games 5 and 6 to force Wednesday's Game 7 (8 p.m. ET, NHL Network-U.S., VERSUS (joined in progress), TSN).

At age 41, Roloson continues to amaze, stopping 27 of 29 shots in Tampa's 8-2 win in Game 5, and coming back two days later to save 31 of 33 shots in a 4-2 win in Game 6.

His biggest moment of the series may have come in Game 6, after the Pens' Jordan Staal scored to tie the game 2-2 at 3:48 of the third period. Seconds later the Penguins' Maxime Talbot had a breakaway, but Roloson stopped his backhand attempt, and then denied him again on the rebound. Pascal Dupuis then swooped in for another rebound opportunity, but Roloson made another great save.

SERIES ARCHIVE › COMPLETE PLAYOFF COVERAGE ›Thirty seconds after the save on Dupuis, Steve Downie scored the game-winning goal that forced Game 7.

"The three big saves … it's a momentum turner, completely," said Lightning defenseman Eric Brewer. "He's just fantastic, as he has been all series. He saved us."

Brewer isn't the first person to say that about Roloson. During the Minnesota Wild's run to the Western Conference Finals in 2003, Roloson saved the team's season with three straight victories in the second round against the Vancouver Canucks.

Roloson relieved Manny Fernandez with the Wild down 3-1 in the series and allowed just five goals over the final three games. He stopped 25 of 27 shots in Game 5, 30 of 31 in Game 6 and 24 of 26 in Game 7 as Minnesota advanced to the conference finals for the first -- and only -- time in team history.

In five career games when his team is facing elimination, Roloson is 5-0 with a 1.82 goals-against average and .938 save percentage.

Roloson also has a reputation as a playoff killer when his team has the chance to send the opposition home. With the Edmonton Oilers in the 2006 playoffs, he went 3-1 with a 1.34 GAA and .957 save percentage in games where he could help end the opposition's season.

In the first round, Roloson stopped 33 of 36 shots in Game 6 to lead the eighth-seeded Oilers to an upset of the Red Wings, that season's Presidents' Trophy winner.

In Game 6 of the second round, he stopped all 24 shots he faced to eliminate the Sharks. In Game 5 of the Western Conference Finals, he stopped 32 of 33 shots to knock out the Ducks, one game after allowing five goals on 45 shots in a 6-3 loss.

This is Roloson's first playoff series since the 2006 Stanley Cup Final, where he was injured in Game 1, but he hasn't seemed to lose any of his postseason survival instincts.

"We see it every day in practice," Lightning teammate Steven Stamkos said of Roloson after Game 6 against the Penguins. "He just never quits. He's defying the odds; doing it at his age is unbelievable. He was our best player."

If I buy a winning lottery ticket, it is better than any losing lottery ticket I will buy. I think Kovalev has had his chances, and I would like to see someone else get some reps, even if that meant swapping spots with Asham. If this team gets through to the next round, I would love to see Comrie out there.

That is true, as hard as this was to watch it would be torture to watch them get killed by the Caps. How during the game ends with us up 2 and we can't even keep it in the zone let alone score. :)

The season is never a success when you don't win it all. But they did a very god job in the relay season even without Sid & Geno. They will be back, the future is bright.

When 2 of the best players in the world are on your team, and they're both missing, it's hard to get things going. I don't think any one player means more to their team than Crosby does to the Penguins. We obviously learned that this season. Not only do Malkin and Crosby get goals, but they make people around them get goals. Neal didn't do much for us this year, but guaranteed when the team is healthy again and he's paired with Crosby, he'll come through big.

The Pens went as far as they could without their 2 best players and that was game 7 of the first round. It's still damn impressive that they got 106 points when they have been dealing with it since January. But hey this is why they pay Crosby & Malkin the big bucks, when it's crunch time the Pens NEED them. They will be right back in it next season.

In the east I'm pulling for anyone who plays the Caps, although I see them winning in 5 or 6.

Mainly I'll be pulling for the Flyers for several reasons. Most of my friends are Flyers fans and when they are playing it's a great excuse to go drink in a great atmosphere. My daughter paints at the games so winning is job security for her. I'd like to see them go all the way to the finals and lose just like last year! :)

If the Flyers make it to the Finals that would put our division in the Finals 4 years in a row. It will only make us stronger.

In the West I'm rooting for Vancouver, they are a fun team to watch.

I think the most painful thing about this loss is that we know what could have been prior to the injuries to Crosby and Malkin. Throw away season, but they would have been swept by the Caps, so it's no biggie.

Now, these are the teams I am rooting for:

West:

1) Nashville Predators: I mean, who really cares about the Predators? If they won the Cup, I would not care one way or another.

2) San Jose Sharks: I like Joe Thorton, and I think the Sharks are a solid organization. I would not mind seeing them win.

3) Vancouver Canucks: I always root against Canadian teams. I have a friend from Canada that hates it whenever U.S. teams win the Cup (guess he's sad a lot), so I personally want to see the Canucks lose, especially because of their regular season play.

4) Detroit Redwings: What is there to say? I hate Detroit. They are the New England Patriots of hockey to me. I wish them nothing but the worst in terms of winning, hopefully they get swept.

East:

1) Tampa Bay Lightning: This might sound weird, considering the Pens just got beat by them, but I would not mind seeing the Bolts win the Cup. I hate the Caps and Flyers, and I hate Boston teams, so they are the only viable option for me. Plus, if Tampa Bay managed to beat the Caps and Flyers/Bruins, it wouldn't make me feel bad about losing to them.

2) Boston Bruins: Kind of that lesser of three evils thing, here. I would rather see the Bruins make it than the Caps/Flyers.

3) Philadelphia Flyers: First, I don't like Philly. Second, I do not want to see them make the Cup two years in a row. That said, I would rather see them make it to the cup that the Caps.

4) Washington Capitals: This is my least favorite team. I would rather see Philly beat Detroit in seven games than see the Caps make it to the Cup. It is not yet time for Ovechkin to get his name on the hardware.

The Pittsburgh Penguins reportedly want to re-connect with Jaromir Jagr -- regardless of whether that means he wears black and gold next season.

The Penguins reportedly plan to invite Jagr to their annual summer alumni golf outing, which will serve as a reunion for members of the 1991 Stanley Cup championship team. Jagr, the Penguins' first pick in the 1990 Entry Draft, played for the 1990-91 team as an 18-year-old rookie and scored 27 regular-season goals before adding 13 points in the playoffs.

Jagr, now 39, spent his first 11 seasons with the Penguins before being dealt to Washington and then to the New York Rangers. He has spent the last three years playing in the KHL in Russia, but is without a contract for next season.

But during a media scrum Tuesday at the World Championships in Slovakia, where he's playing for the Czech Republic, the five-time NHL scoring champion sounded like an ex-Penguin who would be happy to get back in touch with his old team.

"It's too early for me, I don't really know what I want to do next year. I don't know where I want to play. Right now I just want to concentrate for this tournament, it's not going to be more than one week. Then I have to make a decision." -- Jaromir Jagr
Though he was booed after being traded, Jagr also had kind words for Pittsburgh fans.

"The fans in Pittsburgh, they all wanted to help me and they all liked me when I was younger," Jagr told the assembled media. "Plus the biggest thing is I had a chance to watch and play with the best player ever and that's probably the best thing that happened to me in my life."

One thing Jagr wouldn't say us whether he plans to play anywhere next season.

"It's too early for me, I don't really know what I want to do next year," Jagr said. "I don't know where I want to play. Right now I just want to concentrate for this tournament, it's not going to be more than one week. Then I have to make a decision."

Jagr may be long gone from Pittsburgh, but he's far from forgotten. His name is listed on banners honoring past scoring champions and MVPs, and he is one of six former Penguins whose pictures are part of a wall outside the club's dressing room. The others -- Mario Lemieux, Paul Coffey, Ron Francis, Joe Mullen and Larry Murphy -- are all members of the Hockey Hall of Fame. Jagr, whose 1,599 NHL points are the most by a European-born NHL player and ninth overall, is expected to join them in the Hall after his retirement.

The Penguins reportedly attempted to invite Jagr to participate in the closing of Mellon Arena last year and the Winter Classic alumni game this season, but aren't sure if he ever received word of their interest from his KHL team, Avangard Omsk.

GM Ray Shero, who's also attending the World Championships, said Jagr's positive comments about the city were an encouraging sign that time has healed old wounds.

"It's great to hear because Pittsburgh treats its athletes well," he told the Canadian Press. "A guy like him that the city really responded to. There's so much Jagr stuff still in Pittsburgh -- paraphernalia, jerseys, it's nice to see that he still thinks fondly of Pittsburgh.

"The feeling is mutual."

That's something I would not mind seeing. Yeah, he's older and definitely not the same player he was in the early '90s, but it would be kind of cool seeing him out there with Crosby and Malkin.

If you're going to bring back Kovalev, why not bring back Jagr?

Yeah, I doubt he'll be back. If he was five years younger, maybe.

Yes the Wings couldn't pull off what the Flyers did last year! :)

The final 4:

Gotta go with Tampa over Boston. Very seldom I want any team from Boston to win.

In the West I like them both and really don't have a choice. I'd just like to see a great series.

2 bad goals in the first doomed us. Oh well, on to football season. Errrr, college football season I guess.

Yes on to football, I hope!!

I have to root for the Bolts to win the whole thing though...
