View Full Version : Offense let the defense down today

Absolutely lack of offensive anything until late in the game. Inability to adjust to the blitz, unable to pick up the blitz, unable to capitalize on turnovers, unable hit the big gainers when the chance was there, unable to see the wide open target even on the run.

Today was the first time in this season that the offense looked like last year. Mendenhall was running hard but Batch was just not able to hit the big plays even though he tried. You can't pin this one on him though completely. Arians predictable play calling, run on first down every time was pathetic and run in the same spot over and over. We didn't roll out the QB near enough until late in the game. More play action, more roll outs, more shot gun, some no huddle would have been nice.

The defense had their moments today where they looked like crap, there is no doubt. They handed the offense the game with 2 minutes to go. 2 false starts and dumb penalty on the kickoff doomed this team. Everyone is to blame but it's not just the defense that is for sure. They needed help from the offense today and didn't get it.

This is why i said Batch was not a good QB despite the Tampa performance. He did not play all that well in Tampa, and he sure didnt here either. I actually believe, without looking it up, that his stats wasnt a whole lot better than when Dixon played Ravens last year...

We REALLY need a new WR or two though. I know they are still hoping Sweed will pan out (or else they would have cut him, instead of IR'ing him), and we have two rookies, but Wallace is a deep threat, and Hines looks pretty slow at the moment. ARE played well, but that was a one game thing... He is not good at all. That leaves us with 2 rookies, 1 who never panned out, and 1 who strives at running fast... We kinda miss Holmes a lot in these kinds of games - A player who is really good at those semi-long routes.

Yeah the offense stunk it up today..I thought they've been letting the defense down the entire season though. Bad calls being made by BA too I though. Charlie was doing alright throwing little 8 yard passes, why not let him do that every first down?

That being said, Ben is coming back week 6 with revenge in his head. With him in, we crush in every single game that we've played. They're gonna do 100x better with him in.

I can't help but think we should have won this game but with a lack of offense all game long, being pinned inside the 5 to start out was asking apparently too much. I was raving about the OL all year so far but today they failed on an epic scale. Too many false start penalties and not picking up the blitz.

Wait...Batch didn't play good and he almost beat the Ravens? That sounds completely contradictory to Dixon's similar performance last year

All the offense needed to do to win the game was pick up ONE FIRST DOWN on their last drive. And they just couldn't do it.

I never wrote that at all.. That is just you trying to find a way to flame Dixon again, which is getting a little old, but w/e.

I really didn't expect the O to do much..The D looked weak the first 2 drives than played well..I believe the key reason for the lose was Penalty's... Penalty's and more Penalty's..it made me nuts.

They drove me nuts as well, but Ravens had a tremendous amount of Penalties them self, so personally I don't see that as the factor. I have to say i expected more of our offense than this, especially from our rookie WRs, but i guess that demands that they get a chance instead of freaking ARE and Battle. Sure, ARE had two good catches today, but other than that, he have sucked throughout the season.

Bottom line, we made it real close against a very tough ratbird's team. What happens when Ben gets back? I like our future. :yellowthumb: :cope:

Zero 3rd down conversions in the first half, unacceptable.
Missed open receivers, unacceptable.
Dropped passes, unacceptable.

It all just adds up to a performance that should never have happened. We just beat ourselves and let them get too many big plays at the wrong times. Batch didn't lose it himself, the line didn't, the WR's, it was a combined effort from the whole roster but overall I was highly disappointed in the offense with all the chances they had.

You know somethings wrong when Randel El is your best offensive player :duh:

No matter what you guys say those frekken ravens are a hell of a defence -for batch and the o line to take on, we still have a future hang in there stay cool.

Who are you talking about as the "1 who never panned out"? Which rookie?

I actually wasn't all that impressed with the Ravens' defense. They almost got beat with our 4th string QB. Fabian Washington did have some really good defensive plays.

All four games should have been blow outs. OK, Reed not playing today kinda makes up for Ben not playing, but over all the O has stunk when it comes to putting points on the board. If They dont play any better with Ben, then where do they go from there? Cut Ben, and save the money or....try a new OC?

That's ok. I was just trying to figure out which rookie WR we had who hadn't panned out. And the only person who I could think of was Sanders and I knew it wasn't him b/c the rookie WR's really haven't had time to play. I get what you were saying about Sweed. It's really too bad that he didn't live up to expectations. I felt really bad for him when he got hurt this year.

Fire Arians... :grin1: :plus1: Its the plays... did you watch the pats last night.

the pats ran and ran the ball with some passing. then realized that wasnt working, then they went to their stanadard dink and dunk and some runs and kicked miami's a$$.. adjustments and play calling makes the winner...

we dont do that.... if we cant run up the middle well. we try the whole game. if we need a 3rd down conversion. we try up the middle again, knowing it dosnt work..... ravens game!!!! we need a 1st down to win... how do we try to get a first down, run it at ngata and the rest of the 1000lbs of meat.. thats a good plan. 0-1

fire arians.
