I know we shouldn't be looking that far ahead, or are we? he is 72 years old and who know's when he just call it quits. could be next year even. So are we ready for life after one of the greatest Defensive coordinators of all time. Who should be his predesseor? Since defense is the cornerstone of the steelers organiztion for as long as I can remember. Who would be the best canidate to replace lebeau after he retires?

Its going to be the Linebackers coach Butler. He has passed up 2 defensive coordinator jobs the last two years. You dont turn that down unless you have been promised something.

You cant replace him, this team will just have to go on, and hope for the best. I think he stays until he dies. What else is he going to go do? This is his life. I think he's smart enough to know that he would be lost without football. He's like an old Kung Fu master, those guys stay in it until death. I really think it would take him getting sick or something like that to walk away. Or...one day he just says, " I have nothing left....

Seriously, I don't even want to think about it! We need him to stay as long as his brain functions like it does now. He may get old and decrepit but wheelchairs and stretchers were made for physical ailments--I say we keep wheeling him out onto the field for as long as the grey matter works and the synapses still fire! I know, I know...over zealous much? HELL YES! :tt02:

i heard they were moving arians to DC from OC. And he was planning on not having a Nose Tackle and adding an extra Safety.

Can we make a clone of him now or download his instincts? :)

I know you meant "successor",, and I also think it will be Butler or at least a better chance than most.
Comparing against Lebeau will be something we won't be able to help after he is gone but, I don't see it ever being in favor of the "new guy".

Exactly and really can't disagree....Butler knows our play-book and defense so well....I'm sure some tricks of the trade have rubbed off on Butler with his experience with LeBeau....Plus Butler could add some of his own wrinkles......

Maybe I missed this scrolling through, but is anyone worried about the new D coordinator - whoever it is whenever it is - changing to the 4-3 since Tomlin came from the Tampa 2?????? They keep drafting 3-4 LB so it makes since they will keep the same philosophy........

They won't switch to 4-3. Tomlin has had just as many years in a 3-4 now and knows LeBeau's defense was much superior to whatever he learned before he came to Pittsburgh.

If we win it all this year i believe he will call it quits, he will be inducted in the HOF this year, he has 2 SB rings already, and he has a great legacy in football so it wouldn't surprise me that he would go out on top of his game IF we win it all this year, that being said i do believe KB is and has been being groomed to take over and i don't think we would miss a beat with him being the D-Coordinator:imho:
