View Full Version : Steelers press conference about Ben

Live at 230pm EST today. Watching it now; they have stated they are going to coordinate with Goodell to issue 1 disciplinary action. There will not be 2 actions, 1 for the Steelers and 1 for the NFL. No news yet on what type of action that will be, suspension or otherwise.

They also said they have not explored any trade possibilities with Ben and they are convinced that Ben is sincere and they are going to give him the chance to play and earn back the trust of the Steelers and fans. This is good news and I think it's the right one; getting rid of Ben would be the WAY wrong decision here. If he screws up again, then maybe you explore that but in general if he's sincere and they are convinced then you should give him that chance to get back in the saddle and make things right.

So no trade of Ben... Punishment is on it way... And they were tired of Santonio's sh!t.

That's about the long and short of it. Apparently they didn't feel Holmes was committed enough to cleaning up his act whereas they feel Ben is. It would seem his is on his last straw though from what I gathered.

This is a smoke screen. They cannot reveal their hand if they are currently engaged in offers from other teams. I believe the old saying that where there is smoke there is fire and these rumors about entertaining offers has to be taken seriously. I still believe if someone offers them a great deal for Ben he will be gone. He is signed long term and for a 2 time SB winner he comes relatively cheap. Which is why the trade up with St Louis is a possibility because if they shed Ben's contract they could easily afford to sign Bradford and have some change left over from what they would have paid Ben. A week is a long time to work a deal before the draft. I put the odds on a blockbuster deal happening before the draft at 30-70, maybe 40-60.

This will be it for Ben, if he acts out again he will be gone...I think they are giving him a chance to redeem himself. I like that he's talking about gaining the fans trust...I love that! I think it's fair and I do believe he deserves a suspension, even though I hate to see him be out one game but I do think he should get something. I did hear it would be after the draft so it does not take away from the celebration of the draft.

Fact is unlike Santonio he was not "convicted" so why all the fuss??? Donte Stallworth KILLED a man drunk driving and he's back in the NFL with the Ravens so how does this seem bad????????

I"m feeling a little more comfortable after this press conference but I still say if he goes...so do I. :OA02:

I have a bad feeling that Ben maybe on his way out of town. After just reading about the body guards having an active role in the GA case, and Rooney saying,
Mr. Rooney said it seemed likely the discipline would be announced after the NFL draft.

It seems to me that they are trying to strike a deal (I hope I'm wrong), but why would you wait until after the draft to announce the discipline. Do it now and get moving toward the season. Do not let one wonder what the punishment is going to be. Does anyone else find this odd?

Yeah he could win another SB title..................and finally seal the deal and actually undeniably rape someone at the after party.

I wonder what his trade value would be then.

I heard on NFL network that the reason they were waiting till after the draft to announce it so it would not take the celebration away from the new drafties....simple as that.

I still stand firm that if the Rooney's are willing to give him another chance, then I'm behind Ben and I will cheer for him on gameday. I hope he sticks to his word and allows Ben the chance to win back organization and the fans.

I still say even the remote consideration of trading him is absolutely ludicrous!

Right...I think Art seemed sincere in saying he wants to give him another chance basically to earn the respect of the fans...why go thru all that to have in the back of your mind a trade...they know his value. Fix what's broken and move on.....I will back him up as we all make mistakes and he didn't kill someone and be allowed to play for the NFL again....Just sayin...

Im a Big Ben Fan, no doubt... but in light of the things the Rooneys say about "Higher Standards/ the Steeler way", the shame he has brought to the city, team and FO i wont beleive a pre draft trade is an impossibility until we pick at 17 in the first.

There has also been a COMPLETE 180 by local fans, who arent willing to support Ben and say he isnt above the team. People were LINED UP in droves at the Pens playoff game last night to buy the new "Dumb and Dumber" T-shirt featuring ben and santonio. Winning cures everything, and he is also gonna have to change his ways about how he is to the media, fans and people in public. But the most important thing is to WIN and Keep out of trouble...

Well I AM a parent of a beautiful girl...Ben was probably as drunk as she was...now one of my friends heard....yes rumor...that this girl and her sorority had planned this all along and the reason she dropped the charges is she was afraid someone found out they planned it....again this is a rumor. We will never know the entire truth. When you have 2 very intoxicated people together...bad things will happen. She was also underaged and should have known better not to be in a VIP area drinking....SHE'S NOT LEGALLY ALLOWED TO DRINK!!!!!!!!!

Make this chick take some responsibility too here. Too many of you are acting like she's a total victim here. You have absolutely no grounds to say Ben was forcing himself on her, and she was the total victim, innocent of any guilt. She's an underage, drunk, college girl in a bar where she shouldn't have been in the first place. Gimme a break, she didn't get dragged into that bathroom, she went on her own. She didn't have to go.

None of us, not one person, knows exactly what happened that night. You only know, for the millionth time, what they want you to know. This whole thing, for as wrong as it was for him to be in that position in the first place, is just enough to make me want to :barf: right now. Everybody wants to crucify Ben when we've never heard 1 word from this girl. Her friends can say all they want to keep the blame on Ben, but you don't know if they are truthful or not. You can't judge Ben any more than you can judge anyone else unless you were there and you saw what happened.

I'm about done with this topic too; nothing more is going to happen to Ben atleast until after the draft so let's just chill until then. We've done nothing but analyze this 9 ways to Sunday since it started and my brain is fried :thud:

I'm from Chicago, maybe it's different from where you're from, but you'd be surprised what cops are capable of!

If Ben takes the field for us this year and it looks like he might, I will be there unfortunately cheering him on as the success of our season pretty much will be close to solely on his shoulders. I am shocked at how many will just be happy to have Ben back, but aren't worried at all about the other holes in the strength of our team.

One final thing, just because a difference of opinion exists from one any of us may have DOES NOT mean the opposing view is not that of reason, it's just different.

Nobody ever said there weren't holes on this team, hell we have gaping issues the size of the Grand Canyon if you ask me. Our line still needs to be upgraded, our secondary specifically CB needs help, DL depth is needed as is WR. Ben isn't the end all be all for this team, but we all know without a doubt we will go as far as he takes us in any given year.

As far as the cop thing goes, I'm just simply stating that having 2 off duty cops with you as body guards and suggesting that they knowingly, literally, dragged a drunk women into a bathroom with another guy is highly unlikely..especially a high profile person like Ben.

Also nobody ever said, myself included, that an opposing view is not reasonable. You can have any view you want, the site will not chastise anyone for having a different opinion on an issue. If we all agreed on everything, this place would be boring. I'm simply stating my view on it as I have from the get go when this all started and like I always have on any other topic, football related or not.

Theirs a little more to homegrown than just the drug thing. More than one or two players stated they're glad he's gone due to the fact that his head was getting way to big.

I agree! Except I think that if it hasn't happened by the draft, it isn't going to happen. If they get a good enough offer which would have to include multiple 1st round draft picks I believe they would unload him. A Herschel Walker type of trade might do the franchise some good.

I believe Ben has a thick head but may finally understand the consternation with his behavior. If the fallout from this incident does not get through to him there is no hope for him. I believe he should get the chance to see if he can make good on his promises--of course if he gets another sexual assault case against him the steelernation should gather at his home and mete out punishment--I am certain we could come up with something appropriate

I have to agree with you topgun--the cops could be crooked but this is way way off the mark for any cop. And I would love to get a CB too! I can take it if the offense isn't tops in the NFL but when the defense sucks my whole season is ruined! I love when the defense wins a game

Maybe a fall down drunk 20 year old wearing a name tag "DTF" (Down to ****) is a little hard for me to believe. Oh and being backed up by her sorority sisters as witnesses. Sorry if I find the whole thing hard to take at face value. Do I think Ben is a dumbass? absolutely. Do I think his antics in GA are a bit disgrace full? absolutely Do I think he raped her? not quite.

Another sorority sister, Victoria Garofalo, recalled that the alleged victim was wearing a name tag with the initials "DTF." The tag--which the woman had received at a birthday party earlier that evening--was the subject of an inside joke between the students. When Roethlisberger asked about the initials, "Garofalo explained that 'DTF' stood for 'down to ****' and that it referred to a joke between" the women.

Honestly, I kinda felt bad for Ben at first... until i just read the police report. Im sure thats not the "whole" story. A Couple things caught my attention. If Ben raped her why was there no DNA evidence? If she was raped why did her lawyers sugjest dropping the claim?

I had a cousin that was actually raped and she was rattled big time for weeks on end. Just saying...

The chick in GA may have said "no, this isnt a good idea" but evidently theres more to her side that we havent heard. We will prolly never hear Ben's side tho.

That police report is very negative towards Ben and his crew. After that if he only gets 2 game suspension we'd be lucky b/c the report makes him out to be more than an *******, more of a monster. :evilshake:

That's the sad part, those documents make it seem like he's some horrible, serial, woman hunting rapist. We won't know how much of those chicks stories are true or not and what else Ben said.

I still failto see how 2 off duty cops, and Willie colon would knowingly drag any woman into a public bathroom, drunk or not. I'm sorry but that's just a bunch of crap IMO. I know not all cops are on the straight and narrow but seriously, none of them were drinking from what we know and there's no way 2 cops and a teammate are going to put themselves into a situation where they drag a woman into a bathroom with a guy and then block the door so nobody can get in or out.

I call total BS on this and anybody who thinks about it for half a second and doesn't take it at face value should see that too. Ok I'm officially done with this until we get some type of confirmation on what punishment will be handed down and when it will occur. I've said my piece, beating a dead horse serves no purpose anymore. :redcool:
