PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers signed veteran defensive end Nick Eason to a one-year contract, the team announced on Monday.
Financial terms of the deal were not released.
Eason, who originally signed with the Steelers as an unrestricted free agent in 2007, will enter his fourth season with the team. He was originally drafted by the Denver Broncos in the fourth round (114th overall) of the 2003 NFL Draft.
Eason's rookie season ended in training camp with an Achilles injury and he spent the season on the Reserve/Injured list. He was waived by Denver on Sept. 24, 2004, and signed with the Cleveland Browns in October, where he played for three seasons (2004-06).
Eason has played in 69 career games and has started nine contests. Five of those starts came in 2009 when Eason replaced injured defensive end Travis Kirschke. Eason had 18 tackles for the Steelers in 2009.Not that anyone really cares...

Just another throwback being brought back...:duh:

It's just a depth move, no guarantee he'll even make the team but with the status Kirschke and the recent injury problems with Aaron Smith, it makes sense to have more depth. DL is a huge priority this draft though, regardless.

Many of the sports writers expect Kirschke to retire, so this move makes sense. I think the primary backup this year will be Hood, then Eason, then Sunny Harris
