View Full Version : Keisel and strength

LATROBE, Pa. - Brett Keisel is less worried about his responsibilities as the Pittsburgh Steelers' new right defensive end than he is about what fans might say when a back runs through his side of the line.

"People are going to say 'Well, if Kimo was there the play would've been different,'" Keisel said. "There is a lot of pressure. But I like pressure."

So far, he's handling it well. Keisel gained 15 pounds to better replace the departed Kimo von Oelhoffen and is drawing raves as training camp reaches the middle of its second week. The consensus is that Keisel brings the same rush he did as a passing-down lineman for the past two years, but that he can also handle two gaps in the Steelers' 3-4 defense.

Left tackle Marvel Smith, who has to block Keisel in practice, raved about the difference he's seen this year.

Kimo was getting older and a little slower. I'm thinking Keisel will add a little more to out d-line being younger.

Brett needs to worry about being Brett..not trying to be Kimo. Brett has alot of good qualities and talent and will make a find DE for us and make his own niche on our defense. Kimo was awesome ever since he come over from the bungals when Dermotti Dawson called him the tougher player he'd ever faced.

i like keisel more then kimo anyway.....kimo was slow, yeah he was good at stopping the run but you need someone to pressure the qb more often, and keisel will do that. and he'll get better at run stopping and we'll end up being better.

Keisel is going to be much better stopping plays outside though which is always a good thing. With him and Casey Hampton our defensive linemen can really get out there.
