He went 6 for 6 on receptions. 74 yards passing.

Of all the great plays in a game, this was a mountain of a day for Mendenhall and the Steelers future doorway to great play action in the next few years.

Funny I told my brother the same thing, rushing was ok, recieving was money, and this dude can flat out block! I love watching him blow-up defenders!

Mendenhall can: run, catch, block. So long Willie in the off season.

Now if we can just get the running game going, we'll be to deal with in both offensive phases. Mendy is a 3 down back now, no need to yank him for Moore any longer IMO. Mewelde is still money on 3rd downs and having both of them in the game would be an excellent way to give Ben even more options to utilize.

Great point and Mendy isn't exactly a slouch blocker either though I don't remember him blowing anyone up.......but chip and run from both of them......too bad BA isn't creative enough to make it happen.....

Here's what Tomlin had to say about Mendy when asked today:

Q: With Rashard’s receiving performance, can he become a triple-threat back for you?

A: I think that’s what we envisioned a few weeks ago when I said that his role would be expanding. With each day, this guy gains confidence and really we gain confidence in what he’s capable of. He’s rock solid from an assignment standpoint in blitz pickup, and I think it starts there. Where he’s also getting increasingly sharp is in being where he’s supposed to be in terms of route distributions. He can catch the football. He’s been able to do that since

Wait a minute! They actually ran a screen pass to an RB and I missed it?!

Horse Hockey!

Guess I'll have to wait until it airs on NFL replay this week (hope it does anyway).

Hope he stays healthy, hungry and doesn't turn into a head case with his new found succcess.

And to think a few months ago, this guy was already labeled a bust by some people...

Mendenhall is exciting to watch. He's gonna be a key guy on thr offensive side for the next 10 years.

If there was any doubt left that Parker will be gone after this season, this should put it to rest. Mendenhall is your feature back, Moore is your specialist type of back, and then you go out and get yourself a decent prospect to learn behind the 2 of them and we'll be set.

Being the FWP backer that I was, I concede I was a little too hopeful for him this season. However, I certainly cannot be upset about it with Medny's performance. I can be wrong like that all the time and be just fine. :yesnod:

Isaac Redman is still here for that role??

We must be hanging on to him for a reason.

Mendenhall has proven that he should be on the field almost exclusively. If the game is close, Mendenhall should be on the field ALL THE TIME unless he is too tired to go. He's much more of a threat than Mewelde and Parker in any situation...

Mendy is a stud! and Mewelde knows how to get the job done. enough said!

True, and to that point, Polamalu was labeled a bust by some people as well (Bustamalu)

Just goes to show you how much of an instant gratification world we live in.

Weird to think that after the Bus left Parker was considered our savoir..and now we're talking about him leaving not even 4 years later.

they released him....thank God

I'll be sad to see Willie go, I have pretty much been his biggest supporter. But when he has been getting the ball lately at least he has been running with some heart, finally.

Actually i agree. When hes got the ball lately, he have picked up like 5 -6 -7y pretty much everytime. Of course, its easier for him, because he only gets like 2 snaps a game, so those wheels of his a fresh, but still, it would be fun to see both him and Mendenhall in on some snaps.

I agree Willie has been running hard. I would love to see him get a few more carries in the game. I was yelling at my TV when Mendenhall made that block against the Chargers. I knew at that point he wasn't coming out of the game.

I'll always have a soft spot for Willie Parker, but I knew that the writing was on the wall for him when we drafted Rashard Mendenhall. Mendenhall is younger, stronger and more versatile than Parker. Those three advantages (plus draft position) make Parker easily replaceable at this point. Parker can still thrive in the NFL, but I think that he'll probably be better off running behind a FB for the remainder of his career.
