View Full Version : If the problem in the secondary wasn't clear enough before..it should be now

It's become pretty clear to me that the secondary (and a few horrible calls by the refs) is the biggest hole in this team. It's not just William Gay anymore. Ike Taylor missed a lot of coverage, Tyron Carter was having a lot of problems, and Mundy? Bennett? I've never even heard their names before. It'll be great to have Polamalu back..whenever he does get back..but we'll definitely still have problems winning if the secondary isn't fixed.

p.s. I'm also about to send William Gay some new cletes. Maybe it would be easier for him to cover people standing up instead of being on the ground.

We've been saying this now for weeks, Our secondary sucks. It's not hard for any team to see that if you want to beat the Steelers, game plan around our Secondary and you can't lose. KC burnt us in the end and won, now today Oakland did it. ****, next week the Browns already have us all planned out.

Again we go into the fourth quarter letting lesser teams hang around. Why did we wait till the fourth quarter to open up the offense and let BB throw deep. This game should have been over way before the fourth quarter. We can let this season go and hope for help in the first round of the draft. We have little chance of making a playoff run with this defensive secondary.:banging:

ZERO pics by the CB's this year in rediculas. Could we drop any eaisers pics this year? It cost us again this weak. Gay is a very week spot. I was happy when he was blitzing. lol that ment he wasn't getting beat

Dude dont even say little chance of making the playoffs. Game over, we're done.

I will continue to repeat Tomlin is a fraud unless I hear him publicly say "that was the most embarrassing loss I've had as the HC. The DBs played **** poor and we will be drilling them two a days until Thursday."

If we win out and end up 10-6, there's a possibility of us getting a wildcard, depending on how the other teams do, of course.

We definately need another playmaker in the secondary. Love Ryan Clark's big hits and all, but we need someone that can make plays on the ball. Doubtful he will get re-signed after this season. Ike Taylor is fine, don't go throwing him under the bus.

Ike Taylor looked like he had some trouble with timing. He was in the right place most of the time but couldn't pull it out.

No argument on the DB's but lets give Dick LeBeau a big hand for his 3 and 4 man pass rushall game long.

Don't remember if it was 2nd or 3rd down raiders need 20something yards, we rushed 0 but held the LOS to stop the run. Result pass completion for first down.

Why in the hell do you want to root for an extended season??? I'm sick of getting pissed every Sunday, until major changes are made this team will struggle.

Ike Taylor, Gay, Clark, Mundy, you all SUCK!!!!

Put on ur ****in jerseys and dont gve up on this team, we did it in '05 and the team has MORE talent now whether u wanna believe it or not, though it may be slim its still there, so wipe up ur ****in tears and get to the bars to watch the game on thursday GO STEELERS!

How hard is it to knock a jump ball down? Ike shows its hard for him. What a total collapse! Who would have ever thought it possible after last year? Polamalu hid our secondary weaknesses very well.

The whole secondary blows aside from Polamalu, Gradkowski throwing for 300+ yards and 3 TD's against them? Seriously? Unbelievable, season is over.

That's about the size of it right there :evilshake:

This secondary is just horrific, I've not seen a group play this bad in quite awhile. They can't tackle, they can't cover, they can't catch easy interceptions, they can't fall on the ball, they don't get off the field. Can somebody tell me how you can call this group a professional NFL secondary.

I dont know. Does Troy make this secondary that much better or are we just that bad this year? Pretty insane how the secondary plays with Troy in there.

Ike was horrible on the TD bomb. After totally getting turned around he made a very weak so called tackle attempt. Bad thing was I wanted us to blitz and play man and then Ike got totally burnt inside out. The on the last drive he couldn't even bat the ball down right? Pitiful, pitiful, pitiful....Bad thing is they can't even catch it when they throw it right to them?

I think Troy does cover the weaknesses in the secondary. Ironically in 2008 and 2005 he played all games. He was started 11 in 2007 and 13 in 2006. :banging:

I don't understand why Joe Burnett and Keenan Lewis haven't been given an opportunity to spell William Gay. I saw quite a bit of both of them in college and I'm high on their potential. Given Joe Burnett's shakey preseason, I suspect the Steelers believe in him too because he made the roster. It would be hard to do any worse.

Stats prior to todays game...

You know what, right now I really don't want this team to make the playoffs. The playoffs are for teams that beat the people they are clearly better than. The playoffs are for teams that execute on both sides of the ball for 60 freakin minutes. That doesn't sound like the Steelers right now. And can somebody PLEASE teach our DBs how to catch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:cursin::banging:

Of the next 4 games Cleveland might be our only win. Seriously! We could be looking at a 7-9 season. Pity, because we are a better team than that.

Definately!!! While i'm sorry to year about Gays' concussion he obviously needed some serious help standing up which killed us several times...Where the f*ck was Carter when Oakland (dont know receivers name) went in for the TD with the help of Ike pushing him in..Ike clearly need help back there...where were the safeties???? Burnett almost and should have had that INT....Sad part is they cant' put that kind of pressure on Troy..not fair, Farrior stated he was sick of comments made about the Defense not being able to play without Troy....uuhhh isn't it crystal clear now?!?! :yesnod:

Scout.com's Ed Thompson takes a look at the three cornerbacks, safeties and linebackers that NFL quarterbacks have gone after with no mercy this season. And he points out which players at each position are struggling the most when called upon to defend the pass.

Ike Taylor, Pittsburgh Steelers: Quarterbacks have gone after the seventh-year corner a 90 times this season, more than any other defender in the NFL. Taylor has allowed a league-high 54 catches (60 percent) for 679 yards and two touchdowns. He's broken-up 11 attempts.

Bryant McFadden, Arizona Cardinals: 87 passes have been thrown McFadden's way, and he's allowed 45 completions (51.7 percent) for 648 yards and a score. He's knocked away 13 throws.

you will also see in that link that ex-steelers' LB larry foote leads the league, for LBs, in getting burned the most by the pass, "...the Lions' Larry Foote has struggled the most with an 80.6 percent burned rate". 80.6%?
