Steelers kicker Reed cited for public intoxication
Monday, October 19, 2009
By Dan Gigler, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Steelers kicker Jeff Reed was given a citation for public intoxication and disorderly conduct around 9 p.m. last night outside of McFadden's bar on the North Shore, according to Pittsburgh Police.

Police said that he will be mailed a summons to Pittsburgh City Court.

The incident occurred several hours after Reed kicked two field goals in the Steelers 27-14 win over Cleveland at Heinz Field.

Earlier this year, Mr. Reed, pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct and criminal mischief after police said he damaged a paper towel dispenser and harassed employees at a Sheetz convenience store in New Alexandria in February.

In that incident, witnesses told police that Mr. Reed, 30, went into the store bathroom and then became infuriated that there were no towels in the dispenser. He began banging on the dispenser and hurling profanities at employees, even after leaving the store.

Mr. Reed received a summary citation and was fined $543.50, which includes $210 in restitution to the store.

"PITTSBURGH (AP)—Pittsburgh Steelers kicker Jeff Reed(notes) has been cited by city police for public intoxication and disorderly conduct outside a bar a couple of blocks from where the team beat the Cleveland Browns a few hours earlier.

Police say Reed was cited outside McFadden’s Bar about 9 p.m. Sunday.

Reed kicked two field goals in the 27-14 victory.

This is Reed’s second brush with the law this year.

He paid $543 in fines and restitution after pleading guilty to disorderly conduct and criminal mischief for damaging a paper towel dispenser in a convenience store bathroom in New Alexandria in February.

Team spokesman Dave Lockett says the team is still gathering information and has no comment.

Police say Reed will be mailed a summons to appear in city court."

I don't know if this is a laughing matter. I read on espn that he could get a suspension for this. I doubt it but he could. With a potential field goal game against the Vikings coming up, this can only mean bad news.

I agree, and I can see Tomlin not taking it lightly! Can you say inactive on a week when we will need him!

i thought about that, and even wondered how he would do with that booming kick of his...but then again, that's double the risk of a groin injury

I am going to guess that Reed's off the field issues along with his desire for a huge contract means bye bye Reed, thanks for all the wins you secured for us.

Reed needs to grow up and needs to realize the position he is in and cant keep going out and continually getting shitfaced. I wonder if this was part of the reason he sucked in the Bears game...

I think he wants to be the Keith Moon/George Best/Oliver Reed of the football world,

Reed does need to grow up
He won't be in PITT next year and I think some team will pick him up
he is a very solid kicker but has the maturity of a 16 year old with a fake ID!!!!
grow up get your life straightened out and act like a professional not a teenager!

All I can ask is who's the best college kicker out there? I would wager some money as to the Steelers drafting a kicker in the 2010 Draft. Or they could always go FA style.

It all went down at a bar right near the stadium where the Steelers played just a few hours earlier -- cops say they saw a man in the parking lot peeing next to a white SUV.The man turned out to be Steelers back up tight end Matt Spaeth.

When officers approached Spaeth, cops say Steelers kicker Jeff Reed got out of the SUV to defend his teammate and "curled his fists" at the cops. Bad move.

Reed was placed in cuffs and charged with assault and resisting arrest -- as well as disorderly conduct and public intoxication. He was released to a family member at the scene.

Spaeth was cited for urinating in public and released.

Am I the only one who doesn't see this as a big deal? Jeff Reed is kind of funny to me. I get a kick out of seeing what he does next. lol. He hasn't done anything that bad, geez. To me, the only real stupid thing he ever did was turn down a contract from the Steelers. Maybe if he keeps doing things like this, the Steelers can resign him for cheap.

MacFaddens, I went there the night before the Chargers game last season and they wouldnt let a bunch of us in because they say the night before gameday they dont allow anybody to wear there Steelers/Chargers JERSEYS in the bar!! Went to Calico Jacks next door instead, $3 beers & shooters lol

And Reed cant seem to keep out of trouble lately lol Tomlin might even sit him down.

I think this is out of the question, at least from the Steelers now. Hes missed some important FGs this season so far, and he is getting him self into trouble - That is not the mix Steelers normally reward with big contracts. He'll probably end up with Raiders or something..
