Steelers safety Tyrone Carter has been fined $5,000 for a hit he made on Chicago Bears tight end Greg Olsen in a 17-14 loss last Sunday.
Carter leveled Olsen following a catch along the sidelines and jarred the ball loose. He did not get penalized on the play that left Carter with a thigh contusion but the NFL fined him for a hit to the head.
"Unreal," said Carter, who plans to appeal the fine. "I watched the play over and over and I hit him in the shoulder. The NFL sees something different."
Carter played at less than 100 percent following the hit and he said he had trouble walking at the beginning of the week. He said his left leg has improved to the point that he will try to participate fully in practice today.
Carter, who has been starting at strong safety for the injured Troy Polamalu, said he doesn't have any doubt that he will be able to play Sunday against the Bengals.
"I know I won't be 100 percent," Carter said, "but as long as I'm around that 90 (to) 95 I'll be alright."
Man, talk about double jeoparty! That's messed up......
Not to mention, I don't like hearing that he's not 100% neither. :duh:

It was evident that his head "was in the area" of olsens head... i knew as soon as it happened he was going to get fined... weather he actually did or not (lead with his head) doesnt matter any more in todays NFL.

I was just glad they didnt throw a flag...

So Cater isn't 100%. SA, I beg this question... Who do you want in place of Carter: A) Keep Cater in there B) Start Mundy C) Move Deshea or Ratliff into the saftey spot ?

I was surprised that there was no flag on that play myself.

:cope: I was also shocked that there was no flag thrown. I think the NFL is getting a little heavy handed with the fines. Football is a contact sport and sometimes these guys are going to hit another player where they did not intend to hit him.

here's my problem w/ this...

if the hit was bad enough to fine the guy, then he should have been penalized as well...if you don't call the penalty, then it obviously wasn't deserving of a fine...this makes no sense to me

Exactly. No penalty=no fine. Period. Stupid NFL.

The Steeler secondary knows they are targets for fines, both Clark & Polamalu are always under the watchful eye of the officials. The fines those 2 guys pay out and really our defense in general every year could erase the national debt! :D
