PITTSBURGH - The Steelers finalized their regular season roster today by releasing 21 players and placing another on the Reserve/Injured List to reach the NFL-mandated 53-player limit.
The Steelers released the following players to reach their 53-man roster limit: quarterback Mike Reilly; running backs Carey Davis, Isaac Redman and Justin Vincent; wide receivers Dallas Baker, Tyler Grisham and Brandon Williams; tight end Dezmond Sherrod; offensive linemen Jason Capizzi, Jeremy Parquet and A.Q. Shipley; defensive linemen Sonny Harris, Steve McClendon and Scott Paxson; linebackers Bruce Davis, Tom Korte, Andy Schantz and Donovan Woods; defensive backs Roy Lewis and Anthony Madison; and kicker Piotr Czech.
Sixth-year veteran tight end Sean McHugh was placed on the team’s Reserve/Injured List and will miss the entire 2009 season after injuring his knee during training camp.
All NFL teams must trim their rosters to 53 players by 6 p.m. (ET) Saturday, September 5. Clubs may establish a practice squad of up to eight players after noon (ET) Sunday, Sept. 6.
I was a little surprised to see Donovan Woods on the list. I thought he had played well on the second team as well as on special teams. That means Arnold Harrison made it! I was kinda expecting to see his name on that list. Also looks like Hills, Urbik, and Legurski made it.

I still believe the obvious weakness to this team is the O-line. I'm okay with the starters and I believe they will be improved over last years squad, but the reserves are mighty thin. Wouldn't be surprised at all if they snag someone off waivers and move one of the rookies to the practice squad.
I also like our wide receiver corps and expect big things from them.
defense will again be amongst the leagues best. I think the D can be better than last years.
Special teams would have been greatly improved just with the return of D-Sep, Stefan Logan just gave us a home-run threat every time he touches a kick.
Can't wait to see the 2009 Steelers in action on Thursday night!

Man, i really Liked Woods. Hopefully we get him on the PS.
Kinda figured about McHugh... heard whispers about it.
I woldnt be surprised to see Madison land some where.
PS will prolly shape like this: (baring no one gets picked up)
1. Woods
2. Redman
3. Grisham
4. Shipley
5. B. Davis
6. Roy Lewis
7. D. Baker
8. J. Capizzi
I got a tweet saying everyone BUT: C. Davis, Madison, Paxson, Parquet and B. Williams is eligible for PS.

So whos starting at FB Johnson?
FYI there is no FB listed (technically) Summers is still RB and Johnson still TE.
Maybe BA's finally got his way about dumping the FB's from the offense  :whatever: :stirpot:

Tony Pashos, T 6-6, 325
Started all 16 games at RT for the Jags last year. Is he an upgrade over Hills or Foster?
7 years of experience and only 29 years old.

Sarcasm? Please? Pretty please? I hope you're not sincere right now, because Frank Summers is as useful as a carrot.

Him or Damion McIntosh would at the very least be solid depth. The only problem is they might be a bit too expensive. Pashos, for one, struggles mightily in pass pro, but is adept at run blocking.

I think there's going to be a few differences between your list and the actual practice squad. If Sonny Harris makes it through waivers he WILL be on this practice squad. And they really like Mike Reilly too so he might be there. And Capizzi said in an interview that he doesn't think he will join the practice squad.

Anthony Smith was cut by the Packers. I always had such high hopes for him until that Patriot game where he guaranteed the win and then stunk up the field. He could certainly deliver a blow!

The only reason that I can think of is versatility. The coaches must think that Frank is the better special teams player and perhaps better blocker of the two. No question Redman ran the ball better. Perhaps he will make the practice squad and have another shot down the road.

i hope he has another shot...he was too convincing from 5-7 yds out

All I have to say is BEAT TENNESSEE! They smacked us in the mouth last year and I will never forget the players stomping and cleaning their cleats with our Terrible Towel. I want this win very bad and almost as much as a win over Baltimore. Go Steelers Go!!!

If we kept Redman, what would we have done with him? They can't play him other than special teams. They kept Summers for FB, what's not to get?
