Darnell Stapleton just told reporters he's going on IR. Congrats, Doug Legursky. #steelers (http://twitter.com/search?q=%23steelers)22 minutes ago (http://twitter.com/jimwexell/status/3669443481) from txt (http://help.twitter.com/index.php?pg=kb.page&id=75)

^^^ Got that from jim Wexell's Twitter... so yeah I don't think he'd joke about something like that. It's unfortunate as a person for Darnell but, I see it as a upgrade with Essex playing.

Glad to see we're not wasting a spot on our 53- man roster

I think that Essex will be an improvement over Stapleton this year, he worked hard this offseason to break into the starting lineup, it will be good overall for the Steelers

Yep just saw that.

Max Starks should be on it too - IR/ Idiot reserve!

This is Essex's time to shine now; he's got his chance to start now and it's up to him to take advantage of it. He's been on the roster since the Cowher days so it's now or never.

Roster moves:

PITTSBURGH — The Steelers placed third-year offensive guard Darnell Stapleton on their Reserve/Injured List and released four others to trim their roster to the NFL-mandated limit of 75 players, the team announced today.

Stapleton (6-3, 305) started the final 12 regular-season games and all three playoff games in 2008 after former starter Kendall Simmons suffered a season-ending injury. Stapleton, who was originally signed as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2007 out of Rutgers, played in every game last season after being inactive for every game his rookie season.

The Steelers also released wide receiver Steven Black, wide receiver Martin Nance, safety Derrick Richardson and center Alex Stepanovich to trim their roster to 75 players. The club must get their roster down to the league limit of 53 players by 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 5.

In other roster moves, the Steelers place offensive guard Darnell Stapleton on injured reserve and released four players to get under Tuesday's 75-player limit. The four players cut were receiver Martin Nance, safety Derrick Richardson, center Alex Stepanovich and receiver Steven Black.

Seemed like easy picks to me....not sure that I am overjoyed about losing Stapleton though.

The guy got pushed into action from obscurity and helped us to a SB victory, so he must be comended for that at least.

The truth is of course that he was one of the players that needed to really have great camp to hold onto his spot, that of course didn't happen and because Essex stepped up he has become somewhat dispensible.

Not sure he will ever play for us again or not, as this is a team Mike is moulding for greatness and Stapleton, if still around, will be fighting for playing time at center at best.

Go Steelers:cope:

Usually, when his *** gets hit, he is face down and biting a pillow...
Well, you get the Idea!!!!
Belacheat lost had his #2 but boy, retired(Bruschi), I hope his #1 butt boy gets knocked out for the rest of his career (tommi brady) I hope he retires to his home in vasaline valley, below brokeback mountain!

A fellow co-worker does not share my view about brady and does not think my comment is humorous.
He thinks tommi is the best QB in the NFL.
This is coming from a guy who lives 50 miles from PITTSBURGH and is a RAIDERS fan!!!
I believe his allegance speaks to his intellegence level....
About a 1/2 step above a rotting pumpkin!!!!

Agree or do not agree????

I was wondering what they'd do with Stepanovich since they seemed to have too many centers around. I guess this means they'll be keeping Shipley on board ??. Seems kind of funny to release a guy (Stepanovich) after bringing him in such a short time ago.

foster, capizzi, hills, parquet, shippley are battling for the last spots. Not sure if capizzi, hills and parquet are eligible for PS. If i were to guess Id say Foster makes the team. Rest is a coin toss, lol.

good news is essex and colon have been physically assaulting the opposition....satpleton lost his job the second essex stepped on the field.

i would like stapleton to get a shot at center next season
