Seahawks dump Duckett

Posted by Mike Florio on August 24, 2009 11:04 PM ET
As expected, the Seattle Seahawks -- who have yet to acknowledge "speculation" regarding the impeding arrival of running back Edgerrin James -- have cleared a path for their hypothetical arrival.

Per a league source, the Seahawks have dumped backup tailback T.J. Duckett.

Duckett was informed of the decision on Monday night.

The move makes Duckett, a first-round pick of the Falcons in the 2002 draft, an unrestricted free agent.

The Seahawks signed Duckett in 2008, at or about the same time they signed Julius Jones and while Shaun Alexander was still under contract.

After four seasons with the Falcons, Duckett was traded to the Redskins in 2006. Following a single season in D.C., he spent one year in Detroit before signing with the Seahawks.

Duckett's best season came way back in 2003, when he rushed for 779 yards and 11 touchdowns while splitting touches in Atlanta with Warrick Dunn.

I dont wanna speculate but... this guy is a proven short yardage back. I wanted Pitt to look at him before. just thought id :stirpot: a little.

I guess that the signing of E James is the precursor of DJ Duckett being cut
I guess that DJ was that bad to sign a beat up, past their prime RB like E James
Suits me fine, I have James in my fantasy leagues...

I will stick with our guys, last time we brought in a RB FA (22) it was a bust.

Duckett has never impressed me. We are better off with what we have.

He is not worth a roster spot at all. There are guys who are going to get cut that I don't want to see get cut and signing TJ will just make it one more... and for what? If a team like the Seahawks that needs a lot of help in the running game can cut him for an old slow Edge, there is something wrong.

i hate the duckett-bus comparisons.....they should never ever ever ever ever happen. he was cut by Mora....who ****ing drafted him in atlanta.

I don't know if I had to chose right now I would want to save a roster spot for a guy like Logan who can help on kick returns then just a short yardage/goal line RB......Overall a great return man would help our offense more then just a short yardage RB.....

Staley wasnt all that terrible...not worth the cash though

last time we brought in a RB FA was Mewelde Moore though..he turned out ok.

I think we found our short yardage back with Isaac Redmond. He is powerful and sheds would-be tacklers with relative ease.

If Bettis was the bus Duckett is like the Recycle to ride bus.

Douche was ALWAYS hurt, and Opps on the FA RB statement, he is better than alright though, he does what is expected of him and then some.

Didn't we have this conversation the last time he was on the market? Wasn't worth it then, not worth it now.
