This is a nice depth move for us now and at a 1 yr deal is a cap friendly move too.

His stats aren't anything spectacular but in a pinch he'll be usual or in a dime package if nothing else.

I believe all signs are pointing to a center/guard Wood or Mack

Gilbert is more of a reach than Wood/Mack. They can always trade up into the second round to get Jarron Gilbert or Fili Moala. We'll all know soon enough!

2) Steelers move up in the 2nd and grab Duke Robinson

ew

oline isnt that big of a need that the would reach for 2 players in a row at the top of the draft

You guys are gonna be suprised. It's not gonna be Mack. I just don't see Tomlin "settling" for him. We will try and move up and grab a player we are high on, like a Michael Oher or a Tyson Jackson (who we really don't have a chance in hell getting) or I think we will go after one of the WR's that slip to us like a Hakeem Nicks, or a Kenny Britt. If I have learned anything from watching the Steelers draft since Tomlin has came in it is that he loves "Athletes" and Mack and Unger are not Athletes

Good move by the Steelers. Adding a CB was much needed. I'm shocked by the Steelers actually making a FA move lol.

First off, you're high if you think we're moving up to grab a WR. This statement alone tells me you don't have a clue WTF you're talking about. Then to add that we would be "settling" for Mack when it's already been noted by the NFL Channel that the scouts coming out of the combines agreed that Mack is without question, the best C in the draft this year.

Consider the fact that Justin Hartwig (stop gap for last year) was slightly above passable at the center position last year aand is a free agent after this season. And who can forget the failed Mayhan experiment the year before? Again, Mack is the best center prospect since at Nick Mangold, and possibly beyond. Mack has top flexibility and athleticism, is both book smart and football smart and was a dominant blocker in college. He fits the mold of the type of franchise "all pro" Centers (i.e., Dirt Dawson, Webby, etc.) that the Steelers are known for building their OL of the future around.

As far as Unger is concerned, I'm somewhat in agreement w/you. He's basically a rich man's Justin Strelczek. Unger appears to be the jackof all trades, but the fear is that he's the master of none. The Steelers have two versatile interior offensive line types on the roster right now in Justin Hartwig and Darnell Stapleton, I think they're looking for a guy with a firm position who can be counted on to grow into a dominant lineman.

Solid pick-up, this is a good move for the defense. :yellowthumb:

I was getting concerned about the possibilty of using the #1 to pick a CB. It seems that our biggest need is interior linemen both in the DL and OL. This draft should be a lot of 'fun'.

If you would go back to page one and read you would realize that I said nothing of the sort, that I said about a WR "slipping to us"

I don't give a flying **** what the NFL Channel says about Mack, he's at LEAST 2nd, if not 3rd behind Wood, and Unger.

Again, Mack is the best center prospect since at Nick Mangold, and possibly beyond.

Hmmm, All I can say about that is, No.

Actually Mack is by consensus the best center in this draft. However, the only iffy thing about this is Centers normally don't go in the first round.

I just talked to Kevin and he said they plan to draft a center at 32. Trade Foote and 64th pick to Green Bay for their 41st pick and draft Jarron Gilbert. You heard it here first.
He wouldn't tell me which center though.

I'm not feeling this pick up. Ratliff is short and chubby. Not good for a corner. He also sucks, at least every time I've seen him play. He supposedly can return punts but is actually worse than Allen Rossum was in 2007.

It makes sense, since GreenBay is going to an 3-4 defense,If it happens i'm cool with that:yesnod: But i hope we get Wood with our 1st round pick, he seems to be the safest pick out of the center imo.Plus we really need an centers:yesnod:

Dude, if they pulled that off that coup and we ended up with Mack (or Wood) and Gilbert, I'll be drinking heavily tomorrow night! :cope:

Get Wood by trading out of the 1st round, get a high 2nd round plus an extra pick and trade up from bottom of 2nd round (use extra pick as trade bait ) and pick up DL Gilbert (hoping he is still there)
there
got 2 good players and add depth to DL

Uh...yes he is. Every (at least every legit) football site has him as the #1 center in the draft and by far. I have no idea what you're talking about.

good one

and bravo, a player ranking list from mock draft sites....brilliant sources. if mack is so ****ing great why do the steelers value wood over him? not just the steelers, alot of teams with actual pro scouts prefer wood. they say he gets compared to mangold and that comparison is false, absolutely a stretch. mangold was a legit first round center, which is extremely rare. mack wont sniff the first and i bet hes the second or third center taken. mack is a good man, nothing against him but wood is the better center...watch the tape if you wanna get a legit opinion, looking at pete priscos rankings is actually making you dumber which gets dangerous at a certain point

Alex Mack is the best center in the draft. Just because the Steelers like Wood doesn't mean he's better than Mack. He has better credentials and has been highly touted by everyone (analysts and scouts included). It'd be a mistake to take Wood over Mack

K Train

i would hate them taking mack, hes weaker, slower and heavier on his feet than wood. hes got some short arms and i would rather just deal with hartwig again....drafting mack and investing that kind of money into another lineman who will probably just blend in with the rest of the bums on the roster is really jsut commiting to failure

Cant we be more open to peoples opinions and ideas other that bashing everything, idea or glimmer of hope someone might have?

Constantly bashing and or correcting people is getting old... offer your opinion as well... and move on... :yellowthumb:
