Thinking about Ben's SB passing this morning.....film study, review of play by play is now indelibly in my mind. Consider:

Prior to the final drive, only 3 of Ben's completions could be considered downfield, all of which came in 1Q.....those being the 38 yarder to Hines, 21 yarder to Heath on opening possession, and the 3rd & 10 "eyes in back of head" throw to Heath on 2nd possession:
*4 of Santonio's 5 catches prior to final drive were of the catch on LOS, get what you can variety, the 5th was a short slant.
*Besides the two to Heath already mentioned, he caught a screen, a short pop to the one, and swing on 3rd & long, 4Q, coming up well short of the sticks
*Hines other catch was a 5 yarder, same for Spaeth's single catch, Davis caught 1 for 6, FWP's lone catch lost 2 yards

Ben's 9 incompletes came sort of in bunches
*2 on final drive
*3 within 4 plays in 3Q inside the 10
*1 pick late 2Q
*deep ball to Nate 1Q
*deep ball to Santonio that Rogers-Cromartie made a play on (this & prior one gave illusion that R-C was playing well....he wasn't)
*drop by Hines on 1st down from our 1, 4Q

Steelers went downfield early & late, really nothing at all downfield in 2Q, 3Q, up to 2-somethng left 4Q

so what are we thinking about?

The way to beat the Cards is to: Throw downfield early & late, really nothing at all downfield in 2Q, 3Q, up to 2-somethng left 4Q

It's because no one was pressing Tonio at the line. Holmes has proved to be terrific if he has open space, hence the short slants and screens to him were effective.

I really hadn't written this as an indicment of Arians, or anyone else for that matter, but rather as simply a point of interest.
A couple things to consider:
Ben....of his 9 incompletes
*3 were drops (Heath, Hines, and the one to Tone prior to the TD we'll call a drop)
*2 were batted at the line
*1 was a throw away
*THE REMAINING THREE were deep balls, one to Nate which should have def been completed, one to Tone that arguably should have (Live Wire has Tone yelling "Air! Put air under it!"), and the last one to Nate. The only 3 incompletes on Ben were the 3 longest throws he made. Statistically, this is probably true of most QBs though...it's the lowest % throw
Arians....
I know it looks bad, but let's look inside 2Q, 3Q & 4Q when the O didn't do much
*2Q, following our TD
-We do throw downfield on 3rd & 12, hit Tone for the 1st, but the dumb**** Kemo was holding
-Next series, two minutes left, we pick up 4 yards on first, 2nd down throw is batted & picked

:ditto: Better yet ask Ben if he cares about stats or wins:yellowthumb:
