KDKA’s Bob Pompeani reports that Ben Roethlisberger will be the starting quarterback for Sunday’s game in Oakland.

Head coach Bill Cowher said he won't decide officially whether Roethlisberger will start until game time.

"He will be cleared medically before we subject him to playing," Cowher said during his press conference on Tuesday. "We will take all necessary precautions."

Roethlisberger was briefly knocked unconscious during a helmet-to-helmet hit with the Falcons' Chauncey Davis midway through the third quarter after completing 16 of 22 passes for 238 yards and three touchdowns – statistically, his best game of the season.

This is what Ben Roethlisberger and coach Bill Cowher were looking for -- a normal day of practice for the quarterback.

Roethlisberger suffered a concussion four days ago caused by a painful helmet-to-helmet hit in Atlanta.

But he took most of the snaps with the Pittsburgh Steelers' starting offense Thursday and looked ready to play Sunday in Oakland.

Today, Ben Roethlisberger said it is up to him whether he will play Sunday against the Oakland Raiders.

But KDKA's Bob Pompeani says the decision is clearly not up to Big Ben alone.

Head Coach Bill Cowher will still make the final decision based on how practice progresses this week following Ben's concussion during last Sunday's game against the Atlanta Falcons.

Things got off to a good start today when Big Ben was back on the Steelers' practice field on the Southside.

More than anything, Ben wants to play.

"I hope so, I'm gonna try. Like I said if I get the okay and coach and I talk, hopefully I can convince him," said Roethlisberger.
