He got absolutely schooled today by Freeney; 2 sacks, 1 FF and a plethera of pressures where half the time he didn't even get a hand on him. If Marvel doesn't come back soon I don't know how much more I can take. This was the biggest blunder in recent history for the Steelers front office. Not addressing this position in the draft or FA is costing us more and more each week.

Smith really isn't that much better at this point and Freeney would have owned him to.......OL can't be blamed this time......Ben gave the game away......

Marvel would have done better than Starks man, you know that. Marvel was playing at a pretty good level till he went down with his chronic back issues. Smith would have atleast held his own half time, Starks couldn't block his own grandmother from getting to Ben. No the line wasn't completely at fault on this one but Starks is horrible and at this point Im ready to say put in Essex if Marvel can't come back next week.

The line was giving Ben some time but you reach a point where you gotta fish or cut bait!!

How can you say Marvel played well when he was in there....He was as bad as Starks....Both of them suck balls to me....I don't want either of them back.....Smith is broke down and not a LT....He has always been a RT....I agree Starks sucks but we know that and we have known that for years.....Colon isn't much better.....The Steelers OTs suck period....

The thing is that this is probably Marvel's last year and Starks is a semi-bum who more than likely wont get much better.
The O-line has got to be addressed in the off season/draft.

Because, Marvel did play well when he was in there. The majority of the pressure came from up front right through the middle when he was in there. then when he went out, the middle 3 starting playing better and now the Tackles are sucking. Either way Marvel is head and shoulders above Starks dude you know that. Regardless though our T situation is horrible and there is no end in site until the offseason. I can't understand the front offices lack of concentration on the offensive line. For God sakes if you don't do anything in the offseason concentrate on the line and get us some Tackles. Cowher never let the line get this bad; for all his shortcomings he always addressed the line in the draft of FA

marvel won't be back though and he's too injury prone to bring back even if we could. Essex will come back as a backup probably. that surgery Marvel had last year was supposed to fix him and right now we're right back where we started. Colon is displaced at Tackle. right now we need to cut our losses on the line and start over on each end. The inside is getting better IMO.

Smith gave up his share of sacks to......He always has and you know that...lol Ok saying Smith is better then Starks isn't saying much....My point is both are hardly the answer at LT for this team...Smith was never an elite LT and should have remained at RT which was his position his first couple years in the NFL.....

I'm total agreement about the Steelers upgrading the OL....I don't care if they have to trade up to land one of the top OTs in the draft....The Steelers must do that and I will be pissed if they don't....

Let's not forget the holding call as well on the last drive that cost the Steelers 10 yards and absolutely killed any momentum they had. I agree the guy is a stiff and he cant be let go soon enough...

At the end of this season we need to cut pretty much the entire o-line and rebuild it. Draft lineman for every position, pick up FA's, and if needed make trades for lineman. Our current o-line is half of the reason why we lose, Ben is the other.

We've all known for years what it would take to make our OL better, a franchise OT. We've suffered for years and at the end of the year, we're left screaming to draft a lineman. When the draft comes we wait till the later rounds to draft a project, not someone who can step in immediately and make that difference. When the 2009 draft rolls around, I hope no one holds their breath on us doing exactly what we've been needing to do for a long time, cuz it just might hurt ya. Just don't see it happening guys.....:banging:

I cant help to think how much trobule we are in next year... :banging:

I dont see us keeping Starks or Smith...

Simmons, Kemo are barely adequate...

Hartwig and Essex Just arent cutting it...

Stapelton look kinda looks promising, and the lone possible bright spot.

Remember 3 Years ago... Simmons was our worst OL potentially. now we just wish he was one the field. That fact is very scary to admit. However I def dont miss Kendalls Penalties... he was good for at least one false start and/or holding call a game. :evilshake:

We'll need the draft and FA both. Marc Colombo, Dallas Cowboys Mike Goff, San Diego Chargers are 2 good OL who will be available. There's no way that the Steelers don't step up this year no matter what happens the rest of the season.

Smith-Gone, I seriously doubt we go out of our way to resign a 30 something big man with constant back problems. If he is willing to come on board for backup money then we keep him. His back may hold up if he only plays a few games a year.

Starks-Gone, I mean who wants this guy? He didn't get a sniff in RFA this year adn the Steelers thoguht he woudl be so highly sought after they gave him a completely insane tender.

Stapleton is playing well right now, but I really think in the long run he will haev to really improve technique to compensate for his size.

The interior of the line seems to play well for a few games and then bad at times, I think soem of that comes down communication. Maybe Ben always says his line is doing OK, because he knows he is miss calling the protections. Maybe Hartwig needs to run the line. Man how bad to we miss Jeff now...

I think it would be a strtch to change too many things on the line in one year, but things need to change.

i hope we trade up in the draft this year to get a true left tackle. i am talking a serious trade like our 1+2 and really get one of the top prospects. this has gone on for too long.

Chris Kemoeatu, Justin Hartwig and Darnell Stapleton are doing fine in the interior, and Stapleton has thankfully made Kendall Simmons expendable. It's the tackles who suck out loud. Marvel Smith is about to have his career cut short because of health problems, and Willie Colon and Max Starks are both terrible. I say we let both of them go after this season (along with Simmons), and re-sign Kemoeatu and Trai Essex. Give Essex a shot at RT, and package some draft picks to trade up to draft a franchise LT.
