Damn was Wood playing well today or what, he was on fire and gave us a taste of things to come. 1 sack & 1 int and 3 tackles to boot. The entire defense was just amazing today, Schaub never had a chance. After the 1st drive they just started dialing in the pressure and collapsing the pocket giving the Texans just no time to do anything all day. A totally impressive and dominating performance today. The secondary was sure in their tackling today, they swarmed to the ball and overall played very well.

Great job by Troy today with 3 tackles and 1 INT. Considering how bad he has played the last 2 years with injuries and just poor performance this was a welcome site. that hit he put on the receiver in the 1st quarter head to head and just knocking him backwards brought back visions of the Troy of old. He played very well today and hopefully he'll just continue to get better.

You can't forget Farrior, 2 T & 3 assists with a half sack too. That big contract hasn't changed him a bit.

James Harrison had a sack and a fumble recovery and 4 tackles/1 assist. Silverback is picking up right where he left off last year and now that he has help with Wood in the lineup it's just flat scary!

Big Casey may not have the stats today but he was HUGE reason they Texans couldn't run the ball, he was stoudt and held his gap play after the play. The big snack attack is back !! :tt02:

Overall a completely stellar performance by the defense and you can't help but be happy for them even in week 1.

great great start to the season. I love what the O line was doing especially the interior part Hartwig, and Kemo. Hartwig is a definate upgrade. Defence is awsome putting loads of pressure and great tackling hittting!!

Great start to the season more of this please!!!

It was a very good performance by the whole entire defense today....But they came out like gang busters last year also against the average to weak teams....I always keep it in perspective...I'm very happy with the defense and the win....But there is a ton of football left to be played....

The Defense came out strong today! They looked hungry and were ready from the start.

TG already mentioned all the stats and players, but as a whole, I enjoyed seeing every member of the defense getting a shot and making big plays. The Texans had no running game today, and the passing game was tortured every time they made a gain. The Texans were truly punished for every yard they gained. Dwayne Brown, the rookie left tackle for the Texans might need some counseling after being run over repeatedly today.

Today reinforced my love of defense in football....and more importantly my love of Blitzburgh!

I understand what you are saying, but it is encouraging to see the defense hit the ground running. It will take a lot of endurance, strength, and intelligence to keep playing so well this season, but at this point at least the team is exhibiting those elements right now.

Not to bad for a bunch of old dudes! ;) The D was simply amazing today... although I would have like to see them stay focused for the entire game because I hate seeing cheap points late in the game. They did what they do best... stopped the run and disrupted the timing of the Texans passing game. The D is 10 times better than last years :bigthumb:

Can't say enough about Woodley and Timmons, they were both impressive and is a good sign for the future of the Steelers D!!! Special teams definitely looked good as well!! :bigthumb:

The "old dudes" comment was in regards to the Browns fans hanging around this week saying the Steelers D is old! :)

Timmons got a lot of playing time today as we knew he would and he showed up big today, I was happy to see him involved with the starters.

those cheap points at the end pissed me off too, if the starters had been in there they wouldn't have scored that 2nd TD for sure. they started brining in some backups at the end of the 3rd and I was afraid they Texans might get a cheap TD out of it. Better though to not risk injury when the game is out of reach.

Imagine of Timmons was starting?....I really think he could be the X-Factor that really makes this defense special...............

The defense was great....I'm very happy with the entire D....They all played well....I can't knock any of the effort or performance by any player on that entire unit today....They're going to have bring those type of performances consistently this year with some of the teams on the schedule....

First off: Our LB's are plain sick. I have to say they are, so far, the best LB crew in NFL. They are really going to tear things appart this season!

The D-line looked pretty good. Hampton wasnt dominating, but he did get his job done. He still needs to loose some weight tho, imo.

I LOVED clark today. He made a few big hits, and he was everywhere! Troy played "ok". He seemed like he actually wanted to tackle again, which is good. He is, however, still way offbeat when it comes to being at the right place at the right time >.> He was completely out of the game in really many of the plays, because he just placed him self at some dumb position.

Our CB did pretty well aswell. Didnt give up any big plays, and made a few big plays them self.

Over all im just satisfied :)

He's going to get more and more time as the year goes on and that's going to be a great help to us. We won't miss much of a beat if any when he's in there and that will help keep us fresh late in the game when you need big plays to seal a win in a close game.

I was watching Smith today on defense and man did we ever miss him last year, just watching him hold his gap, bust through and blow up plays, man it's great watching him again!

it was a great start to what looks like a tough season. defense looked great, but it looked like they relaxed in the 4th, i wish they had pressed it and kept it at 3. still it was one hell of a start.

Steeler Rocked. I'm so stoked that the Running game was dominant and Willie hit for 3 scores. The AFC is ours to take this year. The favorites all looked bad today. SD was ok but lost to Carolina- NE -no brady, Indy- looked out of synch. Jacksonville nor Tennesse were dominant.

We have to beat Cleveland next week to put it out of reach early. :tt02:

Things look on the up and up early on for the team with the toughest schedule to be battle tested for another SB run.

Steelers Notebook
LaMarr Woodley has come a long way in just one season. Last year there were games when he played only on special teams and a few that you could easily count the number of defensive snaps he was in on. He was inactive for several games. And it was rare that he saw extensive action on defense.
Against the Texans on Sunday, Woodley was one of the team’s most visible defenders, making his presence known all day long.
Woodley made his first NFL start against Houston, lining up at left outside linebacker and was quick to show why he earned that spot following the departure of free agent Clark Haggans. He sacked Texans quarterback Matt Schaub for a nine-yard loss, recovered a fumble and had an interception. Not a bad way to start at all.
“As a rookie, not playing a lot, you come in and it’s kind of like a learning experience that first year,” said Woodley. “After that first year, you’re not a rookie anymore; guys expect a lot out of you. You should expect a lot out of yourself, and your teammates are going to expect a lot out of you.”

Woodley didn’t waste any time getting into the flow of the game, bringing pressure on Schaub on the Texans second drive of the game. The Texans had a first down at the Steelers 42-yard line, trying to answer the Steelers touchdown drive. But Woodley wouldn’t have any parts of letting them in the game, sacking Schaub for a nine-yard loss. When James Farrior and Nick Eason combined for a sack two plays later, it ended the drive.

“When you get a sack, you have to get credit to the guys up front and the guys in the back – the guys up front for applying the pressure and the credit to the guys in back for sticking to their coverage and allowing the quarterback to hold the ball a little bit,” said Woodley. “They let me get in and get the glory.”

It was just the beginning for him. In the second quarter Schaub was under pressure from James Harrison and tried to get the ball to Daniel Anderson. Instead Woodley was right there, picking off the pass and returning it six yards. Two plays later the Steelers took advantage of the play when Ben Roethlisberger hit Hines Ward for a 13-yard touchdown.

“I was dropping back into coverage,” said Woodley. “Deshea (Townsend) told me right before the play started, ‘Make sure you get underneath that guy.’ And I just did what he said. I got underneath him and got the interception.”

Woodley helped to close the door on another Texans drive in the fourth quarter. Harrison sacked Schaub and knocked the ball free and Woodley came up with the fumble recovery to complete a nice defensive trifecta.

I think that describes Woodleys game pretty well :helmet: The guy is a beast, plain and simple.

Yes Woodley looked great. Now Timmons who seems to be making smaller strides needs to get moving.

Timmons is just starting to find his way with the starters; last year was basically a washout for him so this really is his first year. The more time he gets on the field the better and better we'll see him become. He's got so much potential and he showed us alittle bit of that yesterday.

I was very impressed with Woodley yesterday... it's a great sign for the Steelers LB's future. He was every where on the field and really started to make a name for himself.
