Steelers Name Four Team Captains

PITTSBURGH ―The Steelers selected four players today to serve as team captains for the 2008 season. Two new players and two holdovers from the 2007 season were selected by a vote of their teammates.

Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was named a team captain for the first time in his five-year career, and will serve as an offensive co-captain along with wide receiver Hines Ward. Ward was voted a team captain for the fourth consecutive season after earning the honor in 2006-07.

Inside linebacker James Farrior was named the teamís defensive captain for the fifth consecutive season in his seven years with the Steelers (2004-08). He served as defensive co-captain from 2004-06.

Steelers kicker Jeff Reed was voted the teamís special teams captain for the first time in his career. Reed, now in his seventh NFL season, joined the steelers as a rookie free agent in 2002 and currently ranks third on the teamís all-time scoring list with 616 points.

Sounds like all logical choices to me, Im happy for Reed he's done a real solid job for us the last 2 years and so far this year he seems like he's ready to go.

Atleast we don't have to have that debate like we did last year of why Ben was snubbed by his teammates and how they all don't respect him and all that BS

Whoo ray!

It only took Ben Roeth 5 years to get the title when it took Tommy Maddox only 1 year.

Do you think they nominiated Ward first and the front office made them give Ben an "honorary" Captain title to take some of the heat off of him?

what are you talking about?
Yes Reed has done a good job but is he really capible of telling 10 other guys what they need to do?

He doesn't really need to tell them what to do, being a Capt of the team isn't like being a coach or something it's more of just an honor thing. They walk out on the field for the coin toss and such but the roles as they are defined by their position don't change because one guy is a capt and the other isn't. Although if Reed's role were to increase I'm pretty sure he could handle it, he's been around for awhile and the team respects his ability.

Excellent choices for the captains. I was so happy to see that Ben finally got voted as one. I think that should silence the bs that his teammates don't like or respect him.
