Wow. Three way deal that sends Manny being Manny to LA, eh? Hope the four minor leaguers Pittsburgh gets are worth Bay.

Well Andy LaRoche was LA's top prospect

We got Andy Laroche and Bryan Morris, 2 very highly rated prospects from the Dodgers, and Craig Hansen, a former #1 pick who from what I hear has been dissappointing in Boston, but still has alot of upside, and Brandon Moss, who I've wanted for a while now. I think Moss can be another Jason Bay. Maybe not QUITE as good, but pretty close.

Potentially a STEAL for the Buccos.

Nady and Bay both traded....Hopefully these young players develop into something......

Well lets put it this way, for once the Pirates traded their players at the height of their value for top prospects instead of trading at their lowest value for other has beens. This is a welcome change...

moss is a real nice ball player. Was hurt not sure how he is now. But is a good ball player. laroche has not played very well in the pros. granted he has not played much, but is scouted to be a pretty good player. hansen has been horrible. but you never know.

This argument with these trades is ridiculous, explain to me please how the Pirates keeping Bay, Nady, and Marte will help us win a world series?

Its against the law to use Pirates and World Series in the same sentence...

it wont but its doesnt matter how many "prospects" we ever get b/c, they will eventually get traded away anyways... pirates players use the organization as a bus stop... just hanging around untill something better comes along

Well the World Series is the goal, not .500. You dont sacrifice the long term goal for .500. This is how small teams operate, they don't wait for FA and get into a bidding war that they will lose. You buy low sell high until you have the horses to take a shot, then you sacrifice a couple prospects to go for it. So once again explain how these trades were bad moves by the club? Nady was not going to stay in FA, Bay reverted to his all start form from his terrible year last season, his value was extremely high. Take the top quality guys for him now before he goes back to being terrible. These prospects are not going anywhere, its the way the system works you earn their rights for a long time.

untill they trade them in 3-4 years...

were not small market... were mini-market...

World Series is the goal, but thats hard to accomplish if you cant even get to .500 first

Judging and speculation on the actions of this group based on the actions of the previous group is unfair and wrong. Other teams have proven this to be a successful model. We should not sacrifice long term success just to get to .500 if the World Series is the goal.

The Pirates didn't get any value for Aramis Ramirez.......That trade was a joke......What sucks about that trade to is that I live so close to Chicago so I'm reminded of that trade every time I see a Cubs game....lol

You're 100 percent correct....Nady wasn't going to stay and why should he...... Bay was having a good year and you had to get something for him before he went back to having a off year.....All we can do as Pirates fans is :crossfingers: that these prospects pan out.....But the players brought in yesterday do sound promising.....

Would be nice if some of these home grown prospects would develop also......Nady and Bay were not home grown....They were obtained from the Padres in the Brian Giles trade....Which Giles was from the Indians organization originally....Thats the real problem is until the Pirates start drafting and developing their own players better they will never turn this mess around.....

Let me put this in different terms...

Yes, the goal is WS... and .500 and the WS go hand-in-hand, you cant win the WS unless you go .500...

BUT

IMO The Pirate franchise doesnt have the same "goals" as the other small market teams in the Majors...

I feel the Pirates are just a place for prospects to "bloom" and then they get traded away for more prospects (which is what the minors are for, devolping talent)... now im not saying go and blow a bunch of money on overpriced/overrated "big names"... Im just saying other franchise can be small market and be competive and we seem not to be... i guess its just frustration over years and years of losing... It be nice to see the Pirates FO committed to winning in the ball park not just on the finical(sp?) report.

Moss and Laroche both hit their 1st HRs with the Bucs. Laroche looks like he has some awesome power, and I think Moss will benefit from the short porch in right field. And even Hansen pitched pretty well until they took him out. Add Jeff Karstens 6 shutout innings against one of the best offenses in baseball, and so far the guys we got in these trades are looking pretty good.

Karstens pitched 7 2/3 perfect innings and finished out a 2 hit complete game shutout last night, that makes 15 straight scoreless from him...
