Ricardo Colclough is questionable for Sunday's game, and Steelers coach Bill Cowher is not planning on any changes with his personnel at wide receiver.
What those mean for Willie Reid is anybody's guess.

Cowher spoke at length at his weekly news conference Tuesday. However, he said little about his plans for the Steelers' game against the Chargers, particularly regarding the one question fans have been asking: When will Reid, the rookie from Florida State, finally get a chance to return punts?

The Steelers have been abysmal in that area, averaging just more than 3 yards per return, and Colclough's lost fumble against the Cincinnati Bengals proved to be the pivotal play in the Steelers' 28-20 loss.

If Colclough, who has a neck problem and has undergone tests, is unable to play against the Chargers, that does not necessarily mean Reid will be active for the first time this season. Cowher has been reluctant to have more than five wide receivers on his 45-man roster for games, and those spots have been occupied by starters Hines Ward and Cedrick Wilson as well as Santonio Holmes, Nate Washington and special teams ace Sean Morey.

Holmes has been alternating with Colclough on punt returns.

When asked if Reid will dress for Sunday's game, Cowher said, "I don't think that there was anything I was discussing that has any suggestions to that. We'll see how the week unfolds."

Answers like that may be a source of frustration to fans. They are consistent with the approach Cowher has taken toward a two-game losing streak. He has not given in to overreaction and instead cited the positive things his players have done while acknowledging they need to cut down on turnovers and tighten up on defense when the opponent is deep in Steelers territory.

He did tell his players after they returned from a three-day weekend to keep the focus on themselves even though the defending Super Bowl champions are 1-2 and in third place in the AFC North.

"I think the biggest thing, there is a lot of football left," Cowher said. "Don't get caught in worrying about what Baltimore or Cincinnati is doing. I think that is the biggest thing right now, getting better on a daily basis and consequently taking it onto the playing field."

So either BC has no idea what he's going to and is just trying to buy himself some time to figure it out..or he knows exactly what he's doing and just doesnt want to tip off the media and the chargers to any personnel changes that may be forthcoming.

At this point it's anyones guess...

If they keep losing and he doesn't play Reid you know people will be calling for his head.....lol I don't see where Reid would be any less important to the ST's than Morey. He's tying up the 5th WR spot why? When's the last time you saw hime in with the offense much less make a catch? All I know is I am tired of watching the KR/PR's this year already! BC better make a change somewhere to get this going.

At this point if we have to use more starters on the coverage units to take Morey's spot so we can get a decent returner back there then so be it. Some of them play on ST now as it is..you gotta do what you gotta do and what we gotta do is quit starting off drives inside our own 15 yd line.

That and get rid of all these "specialty" guys! What good does it do to have someone eating up a roster spot for something like ST's? At least Reid could go play WR at times too.

I can see the value of some ST "specialists" if you will, but not at the expense of the entire return game suffering like it has been despite his need to want to keep those players onboard.

Why does Morey even count as a WR? He NEVER plays the position. He should be considered a Special Teams player, nothing else. We don't have 5 WRs, we have 4 and a special teams guy. What happens if a WR gets hurt? Are you going to put in Morey? Or are you going to limit yourself to 3 WR formations at the most?

The ONLY reason I can see not activating Reid would be if they activate Duce, and actually PLAY him. I haven't seen such stupidity from the coaches in a long time. They draft a guy for punt returns, and then refuse to use him, despite the fact we need help with punt returns. They go on a crazy spree of getting RBs because they don't want Parker to get too many carries, and then they never use them and instead give Parker the ball 31 times. What the hell is this?

That is all is fans going.......

But I do agree with what you have said! Some of the things we have done so far this year just doesn't make sense.

I think Cowher knows exactly what he's going to do and he is just keeping a lid on it so the Media doesn't give away the changes he's thinking which would only help the Chargers.

BC is just doing what all the other coaches do, dropping little teasers to make us all , which like you all have said, he's been making us do all season thus far.
