Based on the fact that we didn't address the defensive line at all this in the draft or FA so far this offseason I'm wondering if the team is considering taking another look at Booger McFarland or anyone else for that matter. He failed that physical last time he was here but if he's healing up better I wonder if they might consider going after him. I don't know that it would be the best move but if he's affordable it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world considering we still have no viable backups and the DL is unchanged from last year.

if he's healthy why not we need some depth there.................

No!! We need to get away from giving players who are coming off of injuries and failing physicals a chance just because of what they've done in the past. **** that!! I vote no

I say bring him in and take a look, If he worked his tail off to get back in shape and pass the physical this time around then you know his head is back in the game.Wouldn't hurt to bring him and evaluate his progress..could be a cheap depth spot.

At this point he can't command a huge salary so if the team is interested it wouldn't surprise me to see them make a run at him if for no other reason than some capable depth. Sign him to a 2 yr deal and make most of his contract based on incentives for playing time. Next year you look at DL high on day 1 and see where you stand...just my :2cents:

healthy booger would be a good pick up

Just a question how many DL or OL in the league don't have some kind of a knee, leg, or foot injury? If he's back healthy how can we afford not to pick him up lol!

If healthy it can't hurt to add depth IMO.

Pittsburgh actually came to terms with McFarland in late March, when the veteran came to visit the Steelers South Side facilities looking for work. McFarland reportedly passed a physical, but once the Steelers worked him out and realized that his knee was only between 50-70%, the Steelers decided to hold off making an offer until McFarland’s recovery improved. The Steelers and McFarland’s agent, Karl Bernard, have maintained a dialogue since the near signing, and the Steelers remain a favorite to sign the defensive lineman.
If the Steelers create more cap space after June 2nd when they can cut players without having to worry about their salaries, look for Kevin Colbert to make an offer to McFarland if he shows that the knee is sound during his workout.
:2cents: Sounds like the deal is done just waiting on time right now.

Look at this way, assuming his knee is healing up better than it was when he came to the team in March, he's a better alternative than Kirschke right now. Why not bring him in and let's see what he can do. With the unproven McBean on the roster right now it would make sense to give him another look IMO. Let him, Travis, and Ryan McBean fight it out in camp to see who's left standing to take the backup jobs.

Word, with the bucs booger was a nightmare!!!! With freeny, mathis, and Brackett mnaking ALL the plays for that front in indy, McFarland didnt have much room to shine. Combine that with injuries shows you why there was drop off when he went from TB to INDY.

McFarland (2006)- 33 tackles, 2.5 sacks, in 11 games played and started (30 years old
Keisel (2007) - 39 tackles, 2 sacks, in 16 games played and started (29 years old)

The truth is in the numbers! Even though Keisel fell off from a stellar year in '06, i still think he is the starter regardless due to his athletic ability to play a number of spots in this D. But to have a HEALTHY/ AFFORDABLE Booger to back him and Aaron up would be nice!! The key words "HEALTHY" "AFFORDABLE"
