I was kind of hoping for Dre Moore at this spot but we'll see how he grades out.

Looks like he's going to be an OLB for us, he played DE at UCLA in a 43 there but he's built for a 34 OLB.

Defensive End/Outside Linebacker
6' 3" 252 lbs.

He's the prototypical pass rushing OLB in our 34 scheme.

Kind of an odd pick though but I can see where they want to build up young pass rushers because we have no OLB depth behind Silverback and Wood.

too many of his highlights are him recovering fumbles caused by other players.

where are u gettin that weight...ESPN has him at 229....they could be thinking about moving Harrison to the inside.....Farrior doesnt have much time left....and even Harrison isnt that young.

Strengths:
Very athletic...Good timed speed...Outstanding quickness with a burst to close...A terror off the edge...Very active with a non-stop motor...A team leader with great intangibles...Rangy and makes plays in pursuit...Versatile and has played both DE and OLB...Extremely productive..Would dominate games at times...Nice Bloodlines.

Weaknesses:
Vastly undersized and desperately needs to bulk up..A liability versus the run and struggles to hold his ground or get a push...Strength is well below average...One trick pony with a meager pass rush repertoire...He racked up a lot of his numbers against weak opponents...Struggles to shed....A 'tweener without a true position.

Notes:
Father, who's also named Bruce, played at UCLA and was a member of two Super Bowl championship teams as an offensive tackle...Uncle Ronnie also played for the Bruins...A one-dimensional pass rush specialist who will probably have to move to outside linebacker at the next level...Great college player who doesn't project well to the pros...Needs to land in the right situation and best shot may come in a 3-4.

Davis is "PURE ATHLETE" ......If people can be patient with this guy .... he'll be every bit of a force for the Steelers as he was for UCLA. Front office thinking "future" on this pick ... 2-3 year project. However, he'll bolster the ST's unit immediately.

I agree and mentioned this earlier in another thread....Give him some time and he could be a very good player...But he will help the kick coverage units right away....

UCLA DE/OLB Bruce Davis Scouting Report
Height: 6-3, Weight: 252, 40 Yard Dash: 4.78
Strengths: Phenomenal natural athlete with an elite first step off the line of scrimmage…perhaps the best natural pass rusher in the draft…has shown the ability to dominate even the top level of competition…has experience at both DE and OLB…great closing burst when he sees a lane to the QB and a high motor that keeps working…

Weaknesses: Lacks the bulk and strength to play every down defensive end…he may even struggle to play OLB in a 3-4 scheme because he is not stout against the run…maybe a tweener…struggles if a blocker can get into his body…any time you ask a player to transition to a new position it is tough…high bust factor…

Overall: Bruce Davis has set the Pac 10 on fire the previous two seasons, totaling 24.5 sacks in 2006-07 combined. However, there is some concern is a one dimensional pass rushing specialist only. He has not impressed in linebacker drills, despite being projected to a 3-4 OLB spot at the NFL level. He may be best suited to play strictly a rotational end position in passing situations. The success of the New York Giants attack and players like Chris Clemons and Antwan Odom may help Davis’ cause.

Here's a glympse of what a bad-*** Davis is ... and will be ... for the Pittsburgh Steelers. This dude has "SICK" closing speed .... I also see he plays angry and with a hint of J Peazy "smack" talker.

Once groomed for the OLB role in the 34, he'll be better than Terrell Suggs. Mark my words ... :yellowthumb:

Looks like he's got a real good motor and relentless attitude of getting to the QB. He'll take some grooming but he could turn out to be real good and he's got great speed to help on ST right away.

I liked the Davis pick......You can never have enough pass rushers and the is that.....I really liking pairing him with Woodley down the road...

This is a guy I like a lot. I like the fact he'll be able to come in and develope before being thrown into the fire. That's how things played out for the Steelers all-time sack leader...Jason Gildon. Davis seems like a team first player with a great motor. Anybody watch UCLA's bowl game? Davis was lightsout in that game.

I think its safe to say may have gotten a huge steal getting this kids when we did (and e's not affraid to tell everyone about it) Although he sounds a bit "high on himself" he flashes knowledge of Pittsburgh Steeler mentality and i believe he will be his years woodley... meaning he's gonna produce when he is in the game!!

I still like Smith...I do think his best position is strong safety though....Hey let Mundy take over FS next year and move Smith to strong...then trade over-rated Troy Polamalu...lol

Of course I'm counting on Mundy making it...lol

maybe you missed the sarcasm in my post about Mundy....though I do consider him to have some potential...

But Troy is over-rated sorry to burst your bubble....His last INT was Oct, 22 2006....Thats not getting the job done if you're supposed to be one of the best S's in the game.....Troy has had two off years in a row...I know I know he was injured....But no excuse....He is breaking down and his game is suffering for it....People just like to live in the past when it comes to Troy...He was great in 04 and 05....But he is nowhere near that level the last two years...He needs to get back to that level...

Plus I count the times Troy misses a tackle instead of the tackles he makes now....His tackling even has declined....

I think a lot of his play the last couple of years has to do with his injuries lets see what happens this year. He is still one of the top SS in the league!!
