2008 Schedule (http://news.steelers.com/article/88377/)

PITTSBURGH — The Steelers will play five nationally televised primetime games, and will open the season at home on Sunday, Sept. 7 against the Houston Texans, it was announced today when the National Football League released its 2008 regular season schedule.

The Steelers will host two nationally televised primetime games against division rivals, including a Monday Night game on Sept. 29 against the Baltimore Ravens (8:30 p.m.) and a Thursday Night game Nov. 20 against the Cincinnati Bengals (8:15 p.m.). Pittsburgh’s three primetime road games will be on Sunday, Sept. 14 at the Cleveland Browns (8:15 p.m.), Sunday, Oct. 5 at the Jacksonville Jaguars (8:15 p.m.) and a Monday Night game on Nov. 3 at the Washington Redskins.

“We are excited to have five nationally televised primetime games included among what should be one of our most exciting regular season schedules in recent years,” said Steelers president Art Rooney II. “We have a tremendous home schedule that our fans are really going to enjoy as we defend our AFC North title.”

The Steelers also announced that the team will honor the memory of former broadcaster Myron Cope who passed away in February, prior to the club’s Sept. 7 home opener. Cope was the Steelers’ radio color analyst for 35 years (1970-’04) and also invented the Terrible Towel™.

“Myron was a big part of the Steelers game day experience for so many years and we want to give our fans the opportunity to show their appreciation for all that he meant to so many people,” said Rooney.

The Steelers will host the defending Super Bowl Champion New York Giants on Sunday, Oct. 26 (4:15 p.m.). Pittsburgh will have a three-game home stand in November when they host the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, Nov. 9 (4:15 p.m.), the San Diego Chargers on Sunday, Nov. 16 (4:15 p.m.) and the Thursday Night game against Cincinnati. The Steelers’ remaining home schedule includes a 4:15 p.m. game against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, Dec. 7 and a 1 p.m. game against the Cleveland Browns in the regular season finale on Dec. 28.

The Steelers’ remaining road schedule includes trips to play the Philadelphia Eagles on Sept. 21 (4:15 p.m. kickoff) and the Bengals on Oct. 19 at 1 p.m. The Steelers will also visit the New England Patriots on Nov. 30 (4:15 p.m.), Baltimore on Dec. 14 (1 p.m.) and the Tennessee Titans on Dec. 21 (1 p.m.).

All Sunday afternoon games beginning in Week 11 are subject to flexible scheduling and could be moved into the Sunday night time slot (8:15 p.m.). The NFL will provide at least 12 days notice of time changes due to the “flex” scheduling. Week 17 start time changes could be decided on six days notice to ensure a game with playoff implications. Flexible scheduling will not impact Thursday, Saturday or Monday night games.

The Steelers open their four-game preseason schedule Friday, Aug. 8 at 7:30 p.m. at Heinz Field against the Philadelphia Eagles. Pittsburgh will play a preseason game in Toronto for the first time since 1960 when they travel to the Rogers Centre to play the Buffalo Bills on Thursday, Aug. 14 at 7:30 p.m. One nationally televised game is on the Steelers’ preseason schedule, slated for Saturday, Aug. 23 at 8 p.m. (CBS) against the Minnesota Vikings at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome. Pittsburgh’s final preseason home game will take place on Thursday, Aug. 28 against the Carolina Panthers. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

3 out of the last 5 games of the year are at home...that's a definite plus!

Wow we have a lot of 4pm starts this year along with all the prime time games.

November does look brutal with 3-4 on the road.

2 divisional games in December, that should make for an interesting run to the AFCN crown.

That Browns game on Sunday night in Week 2 is going to be huge in determining who controls the AFC North early on in the season. The Browns have a lot of tough games on the road on back to back weeks here. They have to play at Philly and at Buffalo on Monday night, and play the Redskins and Jags on the road back to back weeks, and also they play the Ravens and Bengals on the road as well back to back weeks in week 3 and 4 after they host the Cowboys in the first week and the Steelers the 2nd week.

The Steelers I can definitely see starting off 3-1 if they are able to take care of the 2 home games in Houston and Baltimore, and split one of the back to back road games in Cleveland and in Philly which is definitely possible. Its not like were playing the Jags and Pats on back to back weeks. The Browns and Eagles are definitely two teams the Steelers can go into their place and win. November is brutal having to play the Redskins on Monday night then come back on a short week and play the Colts the following week.

The good thing about November is we got the Colts,Chargers, and Bengals 3 weeks in a row at home. The way this schedule sets up looking at it early on with who we play when we play them I definitely think the Steelers can go 10-6 again. I think the Browns schedule the way its set up is a lot more tougher then the Steelers schedule if you look at it closely like I have.

Man it sucks this is only April!!, Looking at this i can see us going 5-0 heading into the bye week, would be great to be sitting at 8-0 when we go up against Indy.Definately a tough ride but doesn't look as bad as i thought now that it's on paper.Tomlin will have the boys ready.:helmet:

Easy, only 18% of your schedule is affected by your previous seasons record. If you finish 1st you must play all the other 1st place teams from the divisions within your conference. The rest is all pre-determined.

6 games against division teams: 12-36 combined 2008 record

4 games against the NFC West: 26-38 combined record

4 games against the AFC West: 26-38 combined record

Throw in the remaining 2 1st place teams from inner conference (Steelers and Colts) and you have a very easy schedule.

Only 4 teams from last years play-offs on the schedule.

Yeah, the predetermined teams that you play can really make or break a schedule... it just sucks that they've got it so easy but one thing is for sure, we'll be a lot more battle tested then they will be come December and January.

If the Steelers can get to 5-3 or even 4-4 by that Monday night game against the Redskins they are going to be in very good shape I think to win the division with 5 of their last 8 games at Heinz Field. That 2nd game of the year in Cleveland will be huge to see who will control the AFC North with the tiebraker and all for the first half of most of the season especially with the Browns having a much tougher game at home week 1 with the Cowboys then the Steelers do at home with Houston. The Browns could be looking at 0-2 going into that game with the Steelers and if the Steelers are 1-0 after beating Houston they can go up by essentially 3 games with a tiebraker over the Browns if they would beat them week 2 and go to 2-0 and put them at 0-2. That game right now looking at the schedule is very very critical seeing that the Browns are probably the Steelers only competition in the division.

BlitzburghRockCity
04-15-2008, 08:55 PM
Cleveland's schedule is no cake walk either; they've got 3 of the last 5 on the road including playing Indy, us, and tennessee. December should be a VERY interesting month on our division.

The Bengals on the other hand have 4 of their last 5 at home but the 2nd half of their season is brutal; playing Dallas, Indy, Steelers, Jags, and Browns.

November will be a tough month for us, as someone before stated. It isn't as tough as I thought it would be. It seems that the tough games are spread out across the entire schedule, instead of being bunched together. I'm looking forward to Week 2. The Clowns fans are talking so much smack, I'm curious to see how both teams perform. If we go 2-0 and they start out 0-2, that would be great for us. I have faith that we'll get it done and come out on top. Let's go Steelers!!!!!!!

and they went 18-1 lol

BlitzburghRockCity

Just looking at this closer, we start out the season with 4 of the first 6 games on the road so it's imperative that we get off to a good start because if we do then the majority of the rest of the games are at home so we'll have a great chance to really make some noise in the division and get up on the competition in the friendly confines of Heinz Field. If we start out slow it's not going to get any easier with that brutal stretch from late October through mid November.

I certainly hope that we play better on the road this year then we did last year. I think its good that we have a lot of home games later in the season.

I'll be thrilled to bits if we beat the Browns, though. I would love to see their fans try and deal with that. "Oh....we lost to the Steelers....AGAIN!"

What part of "the non-division schedule rotation is determined YEARS in advance" do some of you not understand! Let me repeat it: The non-division schedule rotation is determined YEARS in advance! Again, for those of you who STILL don't understand: The non-division schedule rotation is determined YEARS in advance! Get it?!

This has NOTHING to do with "special favors." All the way back in 2002, the NFL determined that the AFC East would face the AFC West and NFC West in 2008, and that the AFC North would face the AFC South and NFC East. The NFL can't predict the future. It just so happens that the AFC East, AFC West and NFC West are the three worst divisions in the NFL heading into 2008, and the AFC South and NFC East are the two best. It's called "luck of the draw," not "special favors." Get over it! :banging:

The non-division schedule rotation is determined YEARS in advance!

Thing is guys, steelers could be caught looking ahead. texans are a decent team so you can't look past them.

But If the browns beat dallas and lose to the steelers, then I don't give a **** because we just beat the superbowl favs, and will be alittle banged up. But its going to be hard for the steelers to come into cleveland, after the surprising season we had last year, and the real good off-season we had and beat the browns.
