I wasn't digging the pot shot the Sens took on Crosby towards the end of the game, but thats hockey I guess. Malone or Whitney laid the law down though.

That was an awesome game!! The Pens were great!! I was jumping and screaming...so exciting!! I just ran out this morning and got a Malkin shirt...lol.

The shot at Crosby at the end was dirty but I think the Sens were frustrated..but I felt really bad for the Ottawa guy that took Malkin's slap shot to the forehead...OUCH!!

All the great ones take cheap shots.....His teammates stuck up for the captain so that was awesome and plus Sid didn't back down himself....It was awesome first game...I actually got to see it on the versus network or whatever that freaking network is...lol

I was happy for Hossa also. He needed a game like that. Sidney's goal was just fantastic though. Nice game!!!

I am a little worried though that if the Pens do win on Wed. that there is going to be a long break before they play again. That can be bad.....:banging:

Gary Roberts Facts:

Fiji water consists of 100% pure tears of Ottawa Senators fans. Now you know why it's the only thing Gary Roberts drinks.

In any given arena, there are 543,709 things Gary Roberts can use to kill you. But he usually just uses his fists.

The X-men character Cyclops was based on the time Stan Lee saw Gary Roberts kill a man just by glaring at him.

Life on Earth was created one day when Gary Roberts combined the first amino acids to make a protein shake. He spilled a little bit, and well, you know the rest of the story.

Most players say they started playing hockey for the love of the game. Young Gary Roberts just thought it was cool to have blades on his feet.

One time Gary Roberts taught Chuck Norris how to play hockey. There were no survivors.

Gary Roberts doesn't have nightmares, nightmares have Gary Roberts.

Gary Roberts' tears cure cancer. Not because they have any medicinal value, but just as a byproduct of melting whoever is unfortunate enough to touch them. Good thing Gary Roberts never cries.

Gary Roberts does not heal, he regenerates.

Gary Roberts does not think he is tough. Tough thinks it is Gary Roberts.

Gary Roberts does not shoot the puck. The puck seeks to escape Gary as fast as possible to the relative safety of the net.

Gary Roberts does not get into fights. Players headbutt Garys fists in hopes that some of his greatness will rub off on them.

Gary Roberts does not have a gym membership. The gym has a Gary Roberts membership.

When Gary Roberts falls in water, he doesn't get wet. Water gets Gary Roberts.

The grass is always greener on the other side. That is, unless Gary Roberts has been on the other side. In that case, the grass is most likely the color of blood and tears.

I watched last nights game and the broadcasters showed a stat where 8 other teams have started off the play-offs going 7-0 amd I believe they said that 7 of those teams had won the Stanley Cup. Did anyone else hear them say this? I was a little worried when the Rangers scored those 2 quick goals to tie it up a 3-3. It was an exciting game to watch.

I heard about Avery also and as much as I hate to see any athlete getting hurt...I was a little nervous about him putting some cheap shots in tonight on Sid or Geno if the Rangers starting losing....just out of frustration and thinking what difference would it make to them since they are not advancing. What...are we supposed to talk **** and look dumb (like someone else) when they lose?

Lunqvist (sp?) played lights out tonight, he was at 110%, if he would have been at 100% the strangers would have lost.

Somebody had to play dirty with Avery being in the hospital. I actually gained respect for Crosby when he went after whats his butt. I like seeing my superstar stick up for his guys. They needed a loss to bring them back to reality, this series is over on Sunday.

The Pens just seemed to play real slow last night. Malkin missed 2 goals that he normally scores in his sleep and Malone missing a short handed break away. They didn't seem to play their best. I said all along I wasn't real crazy about them sweeping because I don't like the long break between series...which I do not see the Rangers winning the next 3 games.

Typical NY hypocrite fan, the Rags thought they could win the series through the NY media. You want to talk about Malkin? And you have the village idiot in Avery?:lol::lol:

And you talk about Crosby cryin? The Rags fans cried like little bitches every time they got hit.

Who cares about the sweep. This loss will do nothing but wake the Pens up.

The Pens are to be feared, however, the Red Wings history is nothing to scoff at. For all of you who make comments about teams who don't play football in Janurary, this is an excellent example that everyone loves their team, no matter how well or how badly they do.

The Red Wings have won 10 Stanley Cups. The seasons were:

1935-36, 1936-1937, 1942-43, 1949-50, 1951-52, 1953-54, 1954-55, 1996-97, 1997-98, and 2001-2002.

Who cares that they won in the 30's and 50's, most of those players aren't even alive, although most of your current roster probably was.

The only title that matters on that list is the one at the beginning of this decade. The Pens two titles don't matter either.

History, whether it be the Steelers or the geriatric wings, is just that....history.

The Red wings won 7 of those cups when the NHL only had 8 teams.....The NHL has changed so much from today's game that you really can't compare it to todays game.....The Pens were founded in the 1960s so yes the Red Wings would have a deeper and more impressive history....But like Teemont said history doesn't mean jack in the 2008 NHL play-offs....

You missed the point just saying the game is much different and there is really noway you can compare the eras......Actually checked back on the NHL.com and most of them Red Wings cups were won with only 6 teams in the whole league....I don't care how good those teams were there were only 6 teams...lol 6 teams...lol Thats like one division in todays NHL...lol

Way different eras like I said which was the point.....

SteelerDan43

The Redwings have been overrated for a while, just look at that division... when was the last time any of those teams were competitive? And with the NHL scheduling you basically play your division all the time so its easy to get skewed

The Pens just played with so much energy and had the tempo really flying through most of the game. When the Rangers got those 2 back to back goals in the 3rd it kinda took the wind out of the Pens for a few minutes but they recovered and played solid defense through the rest of the 3rd.

My thoughts on the Pens/Rangers series:

1. Thank God Hossa is finally producing like we all expected when we traded Colby and Christiansen for him.

2. When Hossa leaves in the offseason after (hopefully) winning the Cup, I would LOVE to bring Jagr back home to Pittsburgh to take his place. Dude was a beast in this series. What did he have, 5 or 6 goals? He pretty much WAS the Rangers' offense.

3. Bring on the Goons! I said back when they were a marginal playoff team and we were playing them twice to close out the regular season that we would end their season. Well it's taken a bit longer than I expected, but we finally have that chance.

4. WHAT A GAME between the Stars and Sharks last night! OT was intense!

1. I knew we would come out on the good end of this trade with Hossa. I always hated playing against him.

2. How do you know Hossa will be leaving? There's alot that can happen between now and then. And NO WAY do we bring Jagr back, that would be suicide, we have many young guys on the squad now that will only get better. Jagr is contemplating retirement, or going back to Czech. to play.

It's too Penn Stateish

I would rather see a black out or a gold out. I mean the white out looks good and all, I would just prefer a different color.

And as much as this might be demeaning for the Pens...i would love to see fans bring Terrible Towels to the games. I just personally find that it pumps me up to see the terrible towels waving. They could even promote a black towel or something so they can offset from the Steelers. Black and Gold are the colors of Pittsburgh. White is everyone's color.

I shouldn't say I hate it, b/c I do like how it looks. It's a good idea, just needs a different color.

The flyers play very tough and border on cheap shots just about every game. They will definitely be tough at home. You could see them playing right into what the Pens do though, you get them frustrated by not giving into their tough guy act and then they make mistakes.

It would be nice to see them win at home but they are now breaking records of having an 11 and 1 record for the playoffs. I just want to see them keep winning so the record gets better. :yellowthumb:.

Versus!, that's it. The same thing down here.

I personally don't like the station. The announcers are annoying and the picture doesn't look as good as it does on other stations.

I agree, but at least I got to watch it as I switched between them and the Braves getting their butt's kicked.
Yes, sad to say, I have been converted from a Pirates fan. I root for them and was happy with how they played against the Braves, but I am a Braves fan at heart now.

FSN is my favorite station to watch the games.

I hate FSN, the picture quality sucks and Steigy is an ok announcer.

I like the VS. broadcasts. The intermission show is great, picture quality in HD is outstanding, the color analyst is pretty good, and the play-by-play announcing is great when Emerick is announcing but is pretty bad when it's someone else.

NBC broadcast is by far the best.

I know the "Secret Password" to get them. - http://pensgurus.blogspot.com/2008/05/detroit-scf-tickets-on-sale-now.html

You'll have to use the password I posted in my blog and then use it when you try to buy the tickets. PM me if you need any help.

I dont mind Versus, one it's the only way I can see games here, although next year I may get the ICE package on comcast.

The one thing I do like about FSN is the local feel it has. The Versus announce team just doesn't do it for me.

It' like listening to Phill Simms call a Steelers game instead of Hargrove and Ilkin.

BlitzburghRockCity

That's why I like the FSN broadcasts as well, that local feel they put into it and the energy you can sense from the broadcasters. The excitement and drama of the game can be felt right through their voices because they genuinely care about the local teams doing well even in the midst of them being as unbiased as possible.

yeah cause getting shut out in a game they were lucky it wasnt 7-0 they way they were outplayed is really calming, going down 1-0 in the finals that they worked so hard to get to is really the comfort they needed....nerves only get worse as the chances get smaller. plus its a terrible excuse, they knocked the **** out. west>east, but i dont even think its fair to bring an entire conference down cause the pens just choked like bitches and the better team won

BlitzburghRockCity
05-25-2008, 12:34 AM
Realistically I expected the Pens to struggle in this first game. It's on the road, the Wings are a much better team than the Flyers were, and the Pens really had to experience for themselves just how the wings play in post season to get a feel for how it's going to be. Now they can regroup, they know what to expect, and it's very important for them win in Detroit and go back home to Pittsburgh having split the first 2 games.

The Wings were the better team tonight but they aren't the better team overall, the Pens can play with anybody and that's a fact. this next game will show a lot of what this team is made of and how they rebound.

Fleury just did not look comfortable in the net. From the trip coming out the door till the last goal the guy just looked off balance and very nervous. Hopefully he can come back and help his team bounce back. The Pens also must make better passes. Some of the passing during the game just was sloppy. The Pens are a good team and I think they can give Detroit a run for the money, but only if they return to the form that got them to the Stanley Cup finals.

Agreed. What's crazy is that I was telling my Dad last week how awesome the Pens passing game looked against Philly ....probably the best in the league. Then they came out yesterday and looked like they forgot how to pass which is why I think it was all "NERVES" yesterday.

susielr
05-25-2008, 11:05 AM
I think the highlight of the game was Fleury falling on his face coming onto the ice...I couldn't help but laugh.
The Pens beat themselves with mistakes. The first two goals we gave to the Red Wings. Guys trying to make a line change while the puck is at our end and Detroit scoring then Fleury centering the puck for them to score again. If they don't win Monday...it will be hard to recover.

BlitzburghRockCity
05-25-2008, 12:34 PM
The Wings did to the Pens in game 1 what the Pens did to the Flyers most of the series and especially in game 6. they swarmed to the puck, didn't let the Flyers get into a rhythm and they took care of the puck. the Pens only had what, like 7 shots on goal in the last 2 periods yesterday? That's not going to cut it. This is a critical game 2 coming up, it's a must win IMO.

Someone tell the Wings it's 2008, not 1996. I've never seen a team get away with so much clutching and grabbing.

And my God, could Chris Osgood dive a little more?

You've got to hand it to the Wings. They know how to act, and they know how to hold, trip, and hook without getting caught. It's one thing to play great defense and beat your opponent to loose pucks, as the Wings have done. But when they finally get by you and you just grab them or trip them and it doesn't get called, it's no surprise that the Pens have been shut out.

Made last minute road trip to Detroit for game 2 would have hoped for better results! :cursin: Never expected to see 'em shut out again, we just need one goal to get 'em started. The boys are playing tentatively, I think it may have set in a bit that this is the final series.

It was funny the interaction with their fans, pre game it was more of the PENS fan making the noise outside and inside the "JOE". Their fans never really started acting loud until after they had that second goal, I think they were waiting for the PENS to bust out at any moment also. I think its a disgrace they call themselves hockeytown and can't even sell out their arena. Had to be few thousand PENS fans there and they still had a ton of empty seats. The section I was sitting in was mostly PENS fans and the next section over had 2 full rows of empty seats!! They call themselves fans?? Don't know maybe it's a 'burg thing but I can guarantee there won't be that many "wing nuts" in our house.

Hot damn, the Pens are back ! Great job by Crosby scoring 2 goals tonight to jump start the Pens. I was really impressed by his defensive game tonight as well. He was playing tough, mixing it up and was a key in the defensive game as he was in scoring. They really took it to the Wings in the 3rd with going on the offensive and swarming to the puck along with just flat out just roughing up the Wings. Detroit never lost composure and came close many times late in the 3rd but Fluery was making just some sick saves.
