These icons are for a little thing called 'Social Bookmarks'... what is Social Bookmarking you asked?

Social bookmarking is a method for Internet users to store, organize, search, and manage bookmarks of web pages on the Internet with the help of metadata.

In a social bookmarking system, users save links to web pages that they want to remember and/or share. These bookmarks are usually public, and can be saved privately, shared only with specified people or groups, shared only inside certain networks, or another combination of public and private domains. The allowed people can usually view these bookmarks chronologically, by category or tags, or via a search engine.

Most social bookmark services encourage users to organize their bookmarks with informal tags instead of the traditional browser-based system of folders, although some services feature categories/folders or a combination of folders and tags. They also enable viewing bookmarks associated with a chosen tag, and include information about the number of users who have bookmarked them. Some social bookmarking services also draw inferences from the relationship of tags to create clusters of tags or bookmarks.

Many social bookmarking services provide web feeds for their lists of bookmarks, including lists organized by tags. This allows subscribers to become aware of new bookmarks as they are saved, shared, and tagged by other users.

As these services have matured and grown more popular, they have added extra features such as ratings and comments on bookmarks, the ability to import and export bookmarks from browsers, emailing of bookmarks, web annotation, and groups or other social network features.

These links are only available in certain forums becasue there are things around here that don't need to be indexed for the public to see! :)

It's quite simple to work... if you see a discussion that is good and think it should be shared with the world then just click the icon of your choice and follow the steps. Don't worry about thinking someone else may have already submitted it because you can still click the icons and the bookmarking sites keep track of the number of clicks and the more clicks the higher the ranking on the respective sites.

You'll see we do something similar with our exclusive write-ups using digg.com: http://www.steeleraddicts.com/murraytucker.shtml

We hope you guys and gals all use this new feature becasue it does help spread the word about SA :bigthumb: If you have any questions or concerns please let us know.

Best Regards,

SA Staff

This is a great way to help spread the word about SA to everyone even if they aren't actually on the site. When you submit a thread to once of the social bookmarks it will be available to anyone who might be searching for keywords that relate to that article..when the search results are returned it will show the thread that was submitted and drive traffic towards the site.

Remember you won't see the option for the social bookmarks in every section of the site, mainly only in the Steelers sections.

The bookmarks at the top of the thread have been removed because the new version of vBulletin includes the commonly used bookmarks. These buttons are now found at the bottom of the thread... just above the quick repply :bigthumb:

Also, you will now see a "Tags" section. This allows you to enter key words that describe what your thread is about to help it be indexed better in all the major search engines... so use it :D pretty please!

The more we can help out the search engines the better they can help us by increasing our presence on the web.
