Seahawks reach agreement with Julius Jones.....

The Seahawks have reached an agreement with free-agent running back Julius Jones tonight, according to a report on the league's official Web site.
Jones' agent did not return phone messages today and the Seahawks' policy is not to comment before contracts are signed and approved.

ESPN.com reported it is a four-year agreement that will average about $3 million per season.

Jones is the second running back Seattle has signed this week. Seattle agreed to terms with T.J. Duckett on a multiyear contract earlier.

The immediate question is what this move means for Shaun Alexander, the franchise's leading rusher who was the league MVP in 2005. Alexander has seen his rushing average decline in consecutive years and he is scheduled to make $4 million next season.

However, the Seahawks do not need to release Alexander to make room for Jones, so his addition does not necessarily equate to Alexander's subtraction.

Jones will turn 27 in August. A second-round draft choice from Notre Dame in 2004, he played the past four seasons in Dallas. His carries declined in 2007 as Marion Barber got more work out for the Cowboys.

Jones' best game as a pro was in Seattle in 2004 when he rushed for 198 yards and three touchdowns in a Monday night game.

He's only as good as Steve Hutchinson allowed him to be. When he left so did Shaun's game!

Yeah, SA is done here. He has a conract that gets fatter and fatter each year into it. Pretty crazy he is going from being MVP and all time single season TD leader in 2005 to being waived 2 seasons later. So we now have 3 main guys.
Maurice Morris - a decent all around back but not great.

TJ Duckett - Just signed him and will probably use him in short yardage situations. 3rd and short was painfully weak for the Hawks last year.

And Julius Jones - Should do most of the carrying this season.

Look for the Hawks to pick up a promising running back in the draft as well. Probably after a TE though.

This could be a changing of the guard in Seattle.

Yeah! Funny how things can change so drastically for a player like Alexander.

IMO if the Hawks get back to a solid running attack they maybe get to the NFC Championship......possible Superbowl???

You are never too far from the big game in the NFC as of late. The fact that were one game shy of the NFC championship last year when we had absolutely no running game is evidence of that....

The problem with the running game may have had more to do with losing Steve Hutchinson than anything else. We should have a decent O-Line this season after signing Mike Wahle (cut by the jags for cap reasons). The running backs we have are OK but not spectacular. But an OK running would be an upgrade from last year.

We also really need a recieving TE. We haven't found anyone to replace the inconsistant but talented Jerramy Stevens. Marcus Pollard turned out to be a dud last year. We were going to sign Crumpler but he went to the Titans. So we really don't have any starter quality TE. Our west coast offense needs a good reciever at that spot to keep the opposing D honest. Looks like we'll need to get lucky in the draft.

We should be solid on defense. The big thing right now is re-signing Marcus Trufant at CB. He has turned into a top level corner over the years. He had an outstanding season last year right before his FA year. Now he wants 7 or 8 million. The Hawks are balking at that. But CBs are getting big bucks this off season. And we don't have much depth at that spot....
