DETROIT -- The Detroit Lions (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?team=det) on Friday traded Shaun Rogers (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=5508) to the Cincinnati Bengals (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?team=cin) for third- and fifth-round selections in the NFL draft.

Detroit had been fielding offers for the talented but inconsistent defensive tackle. On Friday, the Lions settled on the Bengals' offer of two picks in the middle of the NFL draft in April.

Rogers is often among the most dominant defensive players in the league. But he failed to live up to expectations at times because of weight and off-the-field problems.

The Bengals, meanwhile, agreed to terms on a three-year contract with linebacker Dhani Jones (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=5206).

Jones and linebacker Landon Johnson (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=6855) were two of the team's priorities to re-sign once free agency started Friday morning. Jones, who signed with the Bengals during the 2007 season after a number of linebacker injuries, was the first to reach an agreement. Talks continue with Johnson, who is an unrestricted free agent.

The Bengals lost safety Madieu Williams (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=6815) to the Vikings early Friday morning when he agreed to a six-year, $33 million contract.

33 mil for williams?

That is pretty good considering he was probably the 2nd best player on D- for them....

But they are losing Smith and Williams, then signing "OLD" LBers... 1 guy don't change how the other 10 play!

Shaun Rogers upgrades the Bengals D all by himself.....If they draft defense in this upcoming draft the Bengals could have the makings of a solid defense...

Rogers is a definite upgrade for the Bengals, mainly because last year they virtually had no defense anyways. Rogers gives them that beef in the middle to help stop the run.

Lions defensive tackle Shaun Rogers (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=5508) is being traded but not to the team that was first scheduled to acquire him.
After a deal fell through that sent Rogers to the Cincinnati Bengals (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?team=cin) for a third-round and fifth-round pick, the Lions rebounded by sending Rogers to Cleveland in exchange for a third-round choice and cornerback Leigh Bodden (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=6616). Late Friday night, the Lions informed Rogers' agent, Kennard McGuire, that the trade with the Browns has been complete.

Rogers would join defensive tackle Corey Williams (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=6938) as part of a new Browns defensive line. Williams went to the Browns from the Packers Friday for a second-round draft choice. The Browns have used their first three draft choices in 2008 on trade.
The trade with the Bengals was apparently nixed by the league because of language issues in the trade agreement.
Rogers is often among the most dominant defensive players in the league. But he failed to live up to expectations at times because of weight and off-the-field problems.
He was at his best in November, when he lifted Detroit to a rout over Denver and a 6-2 record.
The 6-foot-4, 340-pound Rogers intercepted a pass and rumbled 66 yards for a score, broke up a pass, had four quarterback hits and 2 sacks, one of which he followed with a somersault. He had plenty of chances to display his signature celebration, gesturing as if he was ripping off his shirt, a la Superman.
"It's just his presence," Detroit coach Rod Marinelli said last season. "I called him the server, because he keeps serving sacks for everybody because he's so disruptive."
The Bengals, meanwhile, agreed to terms on a three-year contract with linebacker Dhani Jones (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=5206).

Thats not saying much, Rogers is an improvement (if he loses weight and gets back in shape) but Williams? The Brownies reached for him and gave up a 2nd rounder to get him LMAO, the Pack FO must be high fiving each other. A 3-4 DT has got to be stout enough to take up at least 2 offensive lineman. The new and "improved" Brownie DL is going to be rotating guys in and out like crazy, they will find out the hard way, they don't have enough guys.

anyway...rogers is a ****** NT, NTs have to be cloggers with a high motor on every snap and thats one thing he doesnt have. he often likes to quit and diappear from games. plus being a brown doesnt help his chances of success

You misunderstood my post...I didn't say the Browns DL was going to be great...I said improved....Williams and Rogers both had 7 sacks a piece last year....The clowns they had along their DL didn't have that type of production last year...lol Plus the Browns could be running a hybrid type defense in 08...Maybe thats why they traded for DTs that can rush the passer instead of just a 3-4 NT....Rogers can't play NT in a 3-4 so I'm guessing Williams will play the nose when the Browns are in a their 3 man fronts....Another point the Browns saw the Super Bowl like everybody else....The Giants put mad pressure on Tom Brady all game...Its a copy cat league...I'm not saying the Browns will have the same success as the G-Men but its clear they're following that blue print....

One point to the Steelers OL sucks in pass protection....Rogers and Williams can rush the passer...Thats what I'm worried about...So really the Steelers need to think hard on not passing on a LT like Chris Williams in the first if he is there....

I know what you was sayin bro :yellowthumb: Anything is better then what they had last year but even with these 2 guys it ain't by much. Now if they would've gotten Haynesworth and maybe J. Smith, I would say its an improvement. Its great to have all that money to spend on FA's but that doesn't mean they have to go out and grab everybody they can, and to give up draft picks to boot, is just crazy. Your right we do need a LT and if we could just find and get that dominating C, then the OG's could relax and focus on their responsibilities and our line as a whole would be good, then we wouldn't have to worry about what other teams are doing.
