CINCINNATI (AP) -- Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Odell Thurman was arrested early Monday on a drunken driving charge.

Thurman, already serving a four-game suspension for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy, registered 0.18 percent on a blood-alcohol test -- more than twice the legal limit of 0.08 percent, police said.

Police Capt. Dan Gerard said an officer working near a DUI checkpoint saw Thurman drive a sport utility vehicle across a double-yellow line and stopped him. Thurman was with two other Bengals players, but police declined to release their identities.

Thurman was taken to the checkpoint, being operated by police and the State Highway Patrol, and given a breath test, Gerard said. Thurman was released to a companion who was sober to drive him home, police said.

A court appearance was scheduled for Oct. 2, the day he was scheduled to return to the team.

If convicted, Thurman could get a tougher sentence because of the high blood-alcohol level, patrol Sgt. Jon Payer said. The average sentence for a first-time offender in Ohio is three days in jail or an alcohol-education program and a $500 fine, he said.

A second-round draft pick out of Georgia last year, Thurman led the Bengals in tackles and had five interceptions as a rookie, helping Cincinnati reach the playoffs with its first winning record since 1990.

The arrest is "certainly a concern since he recently was suspended, but this is an entirely new case," Bengals spokesman Jack Brennan said Monday.

Thurman, who has one game left on his suspension, is the sixth Bengals' player arrested in the past year.

Cincinnati (3-0) defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers 28-20 on Sunday to stay in a first-place tie with Baltimore (3-0) in the AFC North.

Heard about this one too on "the herd" today. Looks like the ratbird way of life continues to infiltrate the bengal locker room ! What an idiot !!

This does not surprise me in the least.

Wow, if that doesn't spoil a victory celebration, I don't know what does.

Bengals fans: "Yeah! We beat the Steelers! We're such a great team! Oh, what's that? One of our players got arrested again? Dammit!"

You knew it was just a matter of time before another bengal got arrested.

09-25-2006, 11:42 PM
I'm surprised it took this long...lol

What amazes me is why these athletes do this. You have a ton of money. Be smart and call yourself a cab.

That'll be it for him for the year...I'm sure they'll extend his supension. Couldn't happen to a nicer group of felons, um, er, fella's, though...

Here is the arrest video...comedy gold...until you stop and realize that this drug-addled drunk could have killed someone...

The best part was his alphabet...although I'm unsure that Odell knows the alphabet sober.

Those were exactly my thoughts actually.. Marvin cleaned out his locker already... I am sure he is gone this year even if not suspended.

Henry is on probation.. Not supposed to be drinking for 2 years.. He was hanging out the car puking.. Luckily he wasnt arrested.. He should have been though

****in idiots!!!!

They are just stupid. Most people would give anything to have the chance they do.

And they have a NUMBER of chances

09-26-2006, 05:27 PM
True. I feel sorry for you guys. That's just not right to have such disregard for your teammates.

09-26-2006, 06:13 PM
It's sad...to have so much going for you in life and to not be able to be responsible and because of it possibly lose everything.

09-26-2006, 06:22 PM
And Chris Henry yakked out of the window...gross.

Why not just have them all pitch in a few hundred dollars and buy a driver instead of this crap?

09-26-2006, 06:54 PM
You know, it's probably not good that he says his social security number on this video.

09-26-2006, 07:49 PM
It is removed now thanks to a certain someone.. Good call on that though.. That is why it was...

At least Odell can sue the media now after he gets cut.. lol
