Polamalu won't play in Pro Bowl
Friday, January 25, 2008
By Ed Bouchette, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
Safety Troy Polamalu has pulled out of the Pro Bowl, leaving the Steelers with three players for the Feb. 10 NFL all-star game in Honolulu.
Polamalu, who finished the season with a sprained knee, is the second Steelers player to withdraw from the Pro Bowl. Willie Parker, whose leg was broken in the 15th game of the season, was replaced by Jacksonville's Fred Taylor.
Safety Antoine Bethea of Indianapolis will replace Polamalu.
The three remaining Steelers in the Pro Bowl are linebacker James Harrison and guard Alan Faneca, both starters, and quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.

That's odd that the only thing that's mentioned is the sprained knee. Shouldn't Troy be healed by now. Wow what shocker that he withdrew from the Pro bowl.

I'm sure it's disappointing. I just hope he is able to take this offseason to heal and build himself up again.

I'll tell you this right now ....

I'm not going to put up with another year of everyone giving Polamalu a "free pass" because of an injury. He needs to return next season healthy and with more muscle. He better start performing at a level commensurate with his highest paid Safety in the league paycheck or I'm going to be all over this guy like a cheap suit each week.

No more excuses from this guy .... none.

Dude Troy is not the problem. It is the aging defense and the turnstile that we have called an offensive line.

 Everyone giving Troy a free pass? I was the first to start calling Troy out way back in October after the Broncos loss...lol So no not everyone has given Troy a free pass.....Oct. 22 2006 was the last time Troy had an INT....lol Thats a very long time for a so called elite player...lol Which not to mention the highest current paid player on the team....Until Big Ben signs his new deal...

Looks like maybe Tomlin and Troy have been reading the cliff notes from Bill Cowher injury reporting 101. Trioy's injury was obviously either more problematic than we were lead to believe or else he reinjured it more in the Jax game. He's got plenty of time to heal now and should be all set for 2008.

he really didnt deserve it this year anyway. im tired of all these guys who go every year just cause they are regarded as the best at their position. it should be the best of the year. the fact that jonathan odgen went just shows its a joke.

:iagree: I was shocked after this season that he was even going to the pro bowl to be honest...

He basically got in on his merit and reputation from previous years...same as Faneca did this year. Neither of them had a pro bowl season but it just proves again how much of a popularity contest the pro bowl really is. Troy missed half the games of the season this year, if anything Hines should have went for this team over Troy and even Hines missed several games but still had a good year.

No free pass from me, he needs to get back to his USC physique and mentality. Hes gotten soft both in body and spirit

Hes part of the problem. Our DL isn't collapsing the pocket like it used to, Aaron Smith is the only one the OL has to account for. We need another play maker that does more then occupy a blocker. So with no pressure or pass rush and our secondary isn't exactly the most feared in the league, the opposing QB's aren't scared to throw at our secondary. Troy used to be a threat, someone that was always accounted for and schemed against, this past year, teams figured out he wasn't the Troy of old and didn't really worry or pay attention to him. Seriously, would you as a offensive coordinator have game planned against him? Yeah he made plays but he was inconsistent and was getting tossed around like a ragdoll going up against 6'5 300lb linemen. He's lighter in the *** and he just doesn't have that attitude like he did coming out of USC. I still like the guy but he needs to get healthy and get back to being a hard hitter and being ruthless.

Wow, I'm sure Troy will start on a demanding off-season workout regimen right now, just so he doesn't have to worry about your comments on a message board.

He gets a pass for last year since, for the most part, the rest of the D stepped up for him. Yeah he needs to get back to where he was, but that will happen only one way, get back to that solid, thick SS that we drafted. If Tory gets back to being that Samoan warrior again, we'll be good, if not, I'm sure Tomlin and the Rooneys will have words for him, and that, he might actually be worried about.

Perhaps he's not going because he doesn't feel he deserves it because he was out with his injuries. He's an upstanding guy so maybe he feels someone else deserves it. :dunno:

Hell of a good post right here. Spot on.

Troy showed signs of getting back to form the last couple games of the year that he played. He still wasn't spot on like he usually is and how we are used to seeing him but overall Im confident he'll come back to offseason workouts and training camp ready to go. Make no mistake, this defense is better when he's on the field and playing like he has up until everything happened this year.

justice is served, he did nothing this season to even worth being a starter on this team, he made no impact, and should not have even been mentioned as a possible pro bowler, so good thing he got hurt, cause he should not even be allowed near where they play the pro bowl game, cause the game should be for players that actually made impacts

BlitzburghRockCity

When was the last time the Pro Bowl was actually all about impact players? It's nothing more than a popularity contest anymore and players get in every year based on past reputation.

but most of the players now actually deserved to be starters on their own team........ our secondary had some of their best games when troy was in street close this year.......... troy made zero impact this year, and it's sickening to see that a dude got in cause he has faggot hair, which for some reason makes everyone fall in love with him

I'm not a huge fan of any of our guys in playing in the Pro-Bowl anyways. It's just a retarded chance to get hurt. He needs to recover from his injury, and get in the weight room.

troy's merit? he has only been in the league what 4 years? and last year he wasnt that good too. im not saying he isnt a good player. but everyone wants to say he is the best safety in football. give me ed reed, bob sanders, roy williams, even old rodney harrison haha.

Ed Reed is not what he used to be. Even Ben torched their D for 5 TD's in one half. Bob Sanders and Williams, I would take over Troy at this point, but not Harrison and his HGH scandal, or Reed.

When Troy is at the top of his game, he is at the top of THE game. I give him a pass for one bad year, if he has two then something should probably be done.

Troy didn't get that big *** contract for being a flunkie. The Rooney's don't hand out that kind of cash to just anybody. When Troy is healthy and playing like he has up until this year he is the best safety in the league. Sanders is a top flight safety as well, Troy is easily mentioned in the same breath as him and Reed. Troy lost weight this year, he was hurt, and missed a lot of games it's not like the dude decided to take the year off and suddenly start to suck.

If they shopped Polamalu right now .... we could probably clean-up off of some team that would sell the farm to get 'em. (i.e., similar to the Herschel Walker trade Dallas pulled off years ago)

I'm thinking we could get a quality veteran Safety in addition to 2 or 3 young active roster players by virtue of either a trade or future draft picks.

That's true we could get a killing for him from any number of teams that need help in the secondary. Hell we could shop Ben, Willie, Santonio, and Heath too and then we'll really clean up

There is many making excuses for Troy's play this year...But he sucked in 2006 also...lol Whats the excuse for his play in 2006? I'm sorry I just think the dude is over-rated....But Steelers fans always tend to over-rate their own...lol

Hopefully in 08 Troy plays like he did in 04/05.........

Oct. 22, 2006 the date of Troy's last INT...I don't care what excuses you make thats just plain sorry...lol

Last year the entire team sucked, nobody on defense had a good year and everybody on offense was just as bad. The 2nd half of the season they did play better but the damage was already done. 2008 is the year of wreckoning for Troy, he's got to come back strong and back to form or we are going to suffer big time.

No doubt 2006 sucked for everybody on the team besides Willie.... Hey I want to stop on my Troy rants...But when a thread pops up with Troy in it ...I just can't help myself......Plus I'm feeling froggy today.......
