i hate ppl that are to bias and just slober over everything the team does.....cowher didn't win the superbowl, the wiz did with his great play calling, if cowher had his way it would've been played not to lose.......

and i'm not backstabbing anyone....not like i've ever liked him.

SteelerFan87

I'm not "slobering over" Cowher. But come on! He's been the coach for 15 years, the Steelers have only missed the playoffs what, 5 times since he's been coach? They've been to the AFC championship game more times than they've missed the playoffs under Cowher! Been to the Super Bowl twice, won it once. There's only 1 team in the entire NFL who the Steelers have played 10 or more times under Cowher that Cowher DOESN't have a winning record against, and that's the Jaguars. That's pretty damn good.

Has Cowher made costly mistakes? Yeah. Is he perfect? No, but he's human, and he's a damn good one when it comes to coaching football.

Maybe it's just me, but I'm willing to wait more than 1 loss after a Super Bowl win before I start saying the coach sucks.

but see with me i'm not just saying it cause of one loss.....i have never liked cowher...i hate his play not to lose the game approach...i hate his run first style, i hate his sit on the ball when you are up 3 style....this team has a lot of potential to be great but he is holding ben and the rest of the guys back with his conservative bullshit...in the playoffs it seemed like wiz took over cause we were passing to set up the run and we were unstoppable...now we are back to the run run pass punt style that cowher plays

I must admit to being shocked by most of the "fans" comments here tonight, and SteelerFan87's comment shows that they feel the same way I do.

A true fan doesn't throw in the towel and act like that after one loss--do they?? What the heck?? :(

This is the way *eye* saw that game. The Jags played a tremendous game, and have absolutely HUGE players. Our obviously smaller team players held them to nothing more than field goals. The team that played so well and had a size advantage, and had a LOT more TOP weren't even able to score ONE TD--and that didn't impress anyone? It impressed me, and even though we put up no points, I wasn't really disappointed with the effort I saw out of them tonight--they fought and played hard.

And Big Ben was playing with a FEVer?? :crutches: Probably not a "great" idea, but he obviously felt that it was time he had a chance to get back into things, and it will help him see areas that he needs to work on.

The Steelers are human, (including the coach) and are not going to be able to go forever and never lose a game! Or maybe that's what some "fans" expect??

I just don't understand...:dunno:

Koopa, Cowher's running system is what has gotten the Steelers all those acomplishments I just listed. Yeah, they passed alot in the playoffs, but what did they do in the second half of those games after they got a lead? They ran the ball, killed the clock, and moved on to the next game. The Steelers tried passing alot and abandoning the run first system in 2003, and see where it got them. One of the 5 years in Cowher's 15 with the Steelers that they missed the playoffs. Great teams win with balanced offenses, and that's what the Steelers do with Cowher as the coach.

Steelerswoman, I'm glad to see another fan who isn't panicing too much after just 1 loss. I'm really mad about this loss and thought the Steelers offense looked absolutely pathetic, but I'm certainly not interpreting this as a sign that the season is over.

I wasn't specifically talking about you when I referred to fans panicking after 1 loss. It's just a tendency Steelers fans have that they seem to overreact to every bad thing that happens.

As for having a stick up my ***, how does me pointing out how successful Cowher has been with the Steelers mean I have a stick up my ***? He's a good coach who knows what he's doing. Like I said, sure he's made some costly mistakes in big games, but that's because he's human. And if you're going to blame him for the losses, you have to give him credit for the wins too. And there have been alot more wins than losses under Cowher.

As for comparing Maddox and Ben, back in 03, Maddox was still very good. He was putting up points, but the pass-all-the-time offense just proved to be an ineffective way to win football games, no matter how many points you score. Plus the Steelers had better recievers that year than they do now. It failed then, and the running game has brought the Steelers success. Hmm, which one should they choose then? The Steelers' system works, and it has been proven through years of success.

I'm new to forums for fans, so I never had any idea that fans would react in such a way to a loss. I have now been educated lol

Everybody's certainly entitled to their own way of dealing with things--I just thought I'd try to make ya'll feel guilty (didn't work apparently :p ) but wanted to be a "cheerleader" and try to get everyone's hopes back up by bringing up that it's very early in the season yet, and we have a LOT of football left to play! :tt02:

And I'm STILL impressed that such a tough opp didn't even get one TD ;)

I thought our D played great and had our offense done anything we would have shut them out instead of us being shutout! Ben and our WR's looked way out of whack. Hopefully that is just the rust showing. Willie did what I figured he would do against a physical team, nothing. He's just not the type of back that can help us in games like this. Did they even play Davenport? I don't remember seeing him out there at all.

I've been a fan all my life, and hanging around Steelers MB's for almost 10 years...it's a very tiny percentage of fans that think the World is over after every loss. Most of us are pretty rational and see it for what it is: one loss.

I've been a fan for 22 years and I've never panicked ever. Sure I get a little foul mouthed when things go awfully wrong like last night. I am sure Cowher had some excuses behind it, but I am always a Cowher Supporter. I enjoy his coaching style, his attitude, his firey passion for the game of football, and how his players respect and love this guy. We had an off night and Ben was just not himself. Like Steelerswoman said, I am very happy the Defense didn't give up a Touchdown, that speaks volumes. I hope Cincinnati realizes our defense is for real and we will stuff the kitties 6 feet under come Sunday cause the Steelers are going to be one pissed off team when they step on that field.

I don't think Najeh was out there at all. I would have liked to have seen him get a few touches since it just wasn't working for Willie.

Statistically, the Steelers and Jaguars look evenly matched on paper both offensively and defensively. The three keys I see for the Steelers to walk away with a "W" are:

Special Teams
Turnovers
Time of Possession

Looking at the 3 keys to winning this game, Jacksonville won 2 out of 3. If the offense can't let the defense get a breather the Steelers don't have a chance. Plus, after watching Troy run around with one arm last night, was it really worth it for him to be on the field?

Steelerlyn

Ben took at the end of the game. Helmet to the mid-section resulted in quite a grimace of pain. I hope that's the end of it and he did not hurt himself.

I agree with sticking with the run but I think you need a power back who extracts a cost from the defenders. Willie Parker doesnt punish people and I dont expect him to. Thats Duce's job..or Najeh's..but we don't seem to have a role for them on a night when Willie is getting tossed around like a rag doll. I blinked my eyes a few times as it looked like a Mularkey offense out there at times. What is Duce's currenr injury? Where was Najeh?

Props to:
- the JAX crowd for being vocal the entire game;
- the JAX punter and special teams who kept the Steelers starting most of
their drives inside the 20.
- the PIT defense. They were on the field a ton of time and were able to
hold JAX to 3 FGs (if you do that you've done your part to help your
team win the game).

Criticism to:
- Troy Polamalu; he wasn't in the game at all.
- Ken Wisenhutt; the play action worked in the first series, go back to it
more often.
- Bill Cowher: for starting Ben with a high fever. Anyone who's had a
high fever knows that there is a tendency for your judgment to be
impaired.
- Ben: He just wasn't ready, plain and simple (that being said, I don;t
know how successful Charlie would have been).

Big game coming up. They need to focus and play much better.

I feel almost as bad after this year's Jag game as I did last years.
I did predict the score correctly (on my site). The numbers were correct, just the wrong team, I said Steelers 6 Jags 3.

As for ben he needed this, even if it was a loss. He needed the game to get back to speed and get a rythem, he has a week of practice and will be better next week. Even if this was a loss, it was preparing him for the big game against the scumbags next week.

I feel the whole team needed it. They have been in the limelight for many months now and they needed this loss to bring them down to Earth and realize they are beatable.

But this "playing hurt" crap.......is just that crap.

We need Troy on Sunday much more than we did last night.
