DAVIE - Dolphins outspoken linebacker Joey Porter and Browns tight end Kellen Winslow have had an ongoing war of words throughout the years, and the former Steeler fired another round on Wednesday.

"It really hasn't been a war. It's been one-sided. I've never lost to him," Porter said. "You've got to win some to make it a war. If you get whipped four times in a row it's not a war. Until you beat me it's one-sided.''

The Steelers were 6-0 against the Browns from 2004-06, but Winslow, the sixth pick of the 2004 draft out of the University of Miami, only played in the two defeats last season. Winslow only played two games his first two seasons because of a broken leg and torn knee ligaments.

Last season Winslow had 89 catches for 875 yards and three touchdowns, including eight catches for 55 yards against Pittsburgh.

"He's a receiver really. He's not a tight end. He's not going to block nobody," Porter said.

"If you ask me who is going to win the Joey Porter- Kellen Winslow battle, it's me hands down because he's not going to stop me from doing anything I want to do."

Porter has just 16 tackles and no sacks this season, while Winslow already has 24 catches for 416 yards and two touchdowns...

Well that "war" has been there for a while. It's not like Joey's just going to forget about it. He still doesn't like Kellen, and I for one hope he backs it up this week on the field!

With an inept Dolphins offense, this season, the Dolphins defense is on the field often and Porter's #'s are weak.
I think he should consentrate on his game and ways to help his defense and not be the jawer that he used to be when he had great players around him helping him look better than he thought he was.

And it continues....

Winslow fires back at Porter with some kindness
Associated Press

BEREA, Ohio -- Joey Porter may have changed jersey colors. His tone remains the same.

Miami's outspoken linebacker, who has waged a personal and sometimes profane battle against Browns tight end Kellen Winslow the past two years, renewed their feud earlier this week with more biting words.

"He's a receiver, really," Porter said. "He's not a tight end, because he's not going to block anybody. If you ask me who's going to win the Joey Porter-Kellen Winslow battle: Me."

On Thursday, Winslow shot back -- kindly.

"I think Joey Porter needs a hug," Winslow said, smiling. "He's so angry, man."

Last year while with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Porter exchanged insults, shoves and hard hits with Winslow. And Porter, who signed a five-year, $32 million free agent deal with the Dolphins in March, feels he got the better of his Cleveland counterpart.

"It really hasn't been a war," Porter said Wednesday. "It's been one-sided. I've never lost to him. It's like me picking on my little brother."

Aware of Porter's remarks, Winslow, who will see Porter on Sunday when the Browns host the Dolphins, counterpunched with some well-placed verbal jabs.

"I'm not into the individual-battle thing," he said. "It's a team thing. We're 2-3 and they're 0-5 and we're looking for a win. He doesn't have to worry about me. He should be worried about the team concept. They're 0-5 right now."

Winslow's comments were relayed Thursday to Porter.

"He is saying all the right things," Porter said. "Unlike me. I'm going to say how I feel.

"We are looking for our first win. The personal battle, he turned that down. We're going to cross paths sometime during the game. We will see each other."

Porter and Winslow first made acquaintances before last year's game in Cleveland when they jawed at each other during pregame warmups, a heated exchange that forced officials to step between them. It was a familiar tactic from Porter, who in 2004 had gotten into a pregame fight with Browns running back William Green, and was ejected before kickoff.

Although the Steelers rallied for 21 fourth-quarter points to win a year ago, Winslow flattened Porter with a vicious stiff-arm after catching a pass.

Three weeks later in Pittsburgh, Winslow attempted to shake Porter's hand before the game, a gesture Porter rejected. In the fourth quarter, Winslow drew the Steelers' ire with a late hit on linebacker James Farrior.

Following that game, Porter called Winslow a derogatory slur and was later fined $10,000 by the NFL.

Winslow expects Porter to fill his helmet with trash talk before this Sunday's game.

"I'm sure he will," he said. "The only reason I did that (offer the handshake) last year was to give our team some confidence and get them going a little bit. But again, I'm not worried about Joey.

"He's not even their best player."

Uh, oh.

A fiery player since college, Winslow, who has been playing with an injured shoulder, has done a better job of containing his emotions on the field this season. Browns coach Romeo Crennel said he isn't worried about the sight of Porter setting off Winslow.

"I don't think Kellen will get unhinged," Crennel said. "Kellen knows he has a job to do and he'll do his job to try and help this team."

Winslow still has moments when he appears on the verge of erupting. However, the 24-year-old, who missed nearly two full seasons with injuries, feels he's got himself better under control.

"You just learn from your mistakes," he said. "It's just maturing and knowing the game, knowing the business, how things work. I'm not really biting down on my tongue. I'm just learning from my mistakes and just growing up."

When Porter hit the free-agent market, there was a brief buzz about him signing with the Browns. It didn't happen, but Winslow briefly pondered the idea of playing alongside his nemesis.

"You know what?" Winslow said. "He would probably be a great teammate. But he's not on our team, so it doesn't really matter."

I couldn't agree more. I loved him when he was a Steeler and I still miss what he brought to the locker room.

And I can't stand the "soldier"!

I don't know how to make sigs (there are some here that can do that really well) but as far as using smileys, you do advanced reply (rather than hitting the reply button at the bottom left). When you pull up advanced reply, it'll give you all the smiley options on the right side of your reply space--and at the bottom of that last smiley, it has a place where it says [More]--that's where you'll see a LOT of options for smileys.

I miss the Joey smack talk, that was always great stuff to hear leading up to a big game especially the divisional ones. Porter will never stop being himself. That's what got him so much success, he is what he is and that's AOK with me ;)

Porter is stuck on a team that just can't get out of it's own way. The defense was supposed to be very good for the Dolphins this year but so far the entire team hasn't done anything.

Some of what I've read out of Miami sounds like Joey in unhappy with his role. You aren't gonna put up many numbers besides tackles playing the Sam.

This is just Joey being Joey. It's what he does. He thrives on this stuff. It fuels him. And when he was here, it fueled the whole defense too. Seems like he's trying it down in Miami, but that team just doesn't have a pulse. He's a guy that thrives on emotion, playing on a team that has none. Add to that the vanilla defenses they're playing, and you get Peezy's lack of stats.

I hate loud mouth players in the league. Joey seems to not be able to keep his mouth shut and just play the game. I remember the superbowl when he ripped the seahawks TE. This week my bears play the vikings and the ex-packer Darren sharper has opened his mouth vs the Bears TEs. Roy Williams of the Lions never shuts up. Just play the game and let your play do all the talking.
