Pro Bowl may be a thing of the past if play doesn’t improve

February 6, 2012 Posted by SteelerAddicts

The annual trip to Hawaii, or now also Florida, for the AFC/NFC Pro Bowl could be a thing of the past. Commissioner Roger Goodell pointed out in a recent interview that the quality of play must improve or changes will have to be made.

After watching this years game, as if you need anymore proof from previous years, it’s basically pointless to even play it. The defense doesn’t put up any type of a pass rush, the secondary only covers receivers when they feel like, and the linebackers might as well not even bother tackling. It’s an offensive display of aerial fireworks with big plays and circus catches, so if you like offense and no defense then you’re in heaven.

Steelers 2012 Pro Bowl Wrapup – Stats, News, Tweets, & Pics from a wild contest in Hawaii

January 29, 2012 Posted by SteelerAddicts

Both Ben Roethlisberger and Antonio Brown put on a highlight show during the 2012 Pro Bowl. Roethlisberger had 2 Touchdowns in the 1st quarter. Brown was in as a receiver, punt/kick returner, and defensive back even late in the game. Definitely one of the most entertaining Pro Bowls in a long time.   The following is a recap of the Steelers players highlights and stats from the game.

1st Half

Ben started out on the first play with a first down completion to Mike Wallace. He also hit him again on that drive.

Jimmy Graham caught a pass from Arron Rodgers for a first down while James Harrison was in coverage.

Ben did throw an INT, picked off by the Packers Clay Matthews but after some razzle dazzle laterals the NFC fumbled it and it was a recovered for a first down by the AFC.

AFC-NFC Pro Bowl Rules

January 29, 2012 Posted by SteelerAddicts

The rules that the NFL has set when it comes to the Pro Bowl are different than games played during the pre season, regular season, and post season. The point of watching the Pro Bowl is not to see great football being played. It’s to watch the “best of the best” all on the field at the same time, as voted on by the fans, coaches, and players. You won’t see great defense, other than the occasional nice interception. You do tend to see a lot of big plays by the offense down field though.

The Pro Bowl has different rules from other NFL games in order to try and avoid major injury as much as possible since this is an exhibition game and doesn’t count towards any records for either side.

  • No motion or shifting by the offense
  • Offense must have a tight end in all formations

Ben to meet with Art Rooney II to discuss direction of the Steelers offense (audio included)

January 27, 2012 Posted by SteelerAddicts

We all knew this was coming, Ben Roethlisberger was going to say something at the Pro Bowl this week in regards to the Bruce Arians retirement/release/”I had to leave” situation.   As was reported this morning by the Pittsburgh Trib, Ben had this to say about new change coming at Offensive Coordinator:

“When I get back, I’m going to go up to Mr. Rooney’s office and ask him what he wants from me, what he wants from this offense, because I think that’s a viable question for him,” Roethlisberger told the Tribune-Review on Thursday following an AFC practice at Hickam Air Force Base. “He’s our owner and our boss, so I really would like to know kind of what he wants and where he sees our offense going because I’d like to tell him where I see us going.”

”We feel like we are really close to being an elite offense,” Roethlisberger said. “For your leader to be gone is kind of a shocker, but you’ve got to be ready for whatever the Rooney’s and coach (Mike) Tomlin decide it our next step.”

Arians on Big Ben: “The phone is always there when he needs me”

January 24, 2012 Posted by SteelerAddicts

We’re going to learn a lot about Ben Roethlisberger in this coming season. According to an article written by Steelers writer Mark Kaboly, Bruce Arians was pushed out of Pittsburgh; “When I wasn’t offered a contract, it was an easy decision for me,” This is exactly what we were all thinking was the case either because Mike Tomlin, Art Rooney II or both of them though it was in the best interest of the team to move on.  I have no problems with the decision as we’ve talked about here on SA. The thing that concerns me just a tad, or should I say warrants attention, is this comment by Bruce Arians:

Arians said that Roethlisberger wasn’t happy with the decision.

“He’s not happy, but that’s part of the business,” Arians said. “He is happy for me. He lives around the corner and we’ll still see each other a lot. The phone is always there when he needs me.”

Polamalu out for the pro bowl; replaced by Brian Dawkins

January 19, 2012 Posted by SteelerAddicts

A report came down tonight via BroncosTalk.com that Safety Brian Dawkins has been added to the AFC Pro Bowl roster, replacing Steelers Safety Troy Polamalu.

Polamalu was able to start & play in all 16 games for the Steelers this past season, although he did suffer a head injury vs Kansas City on November 27th. He suffered some bumps and bruises throughout the year but nothing major other than the concussion like symptons on a flying, vintage Troy Polamalu, tackle where his head hit the knee of Broncos receiver at the time, Steve Maneri.  (more…)
