Affiliate – Will the Steelers rebound after losing to the Denver Broncos in Week 1? They will host the Jets this weekend and are currently the favorites to win. Right now the NFL odds board lists Pittsburgh as a six-point favorite, even though they were beaten pretty bad by the Broncos and the Jets looked dominant against the Buffalo Bills.
Still, people realize the Steelers aren’t going to lose too many games, especially at home. This line seems fair in that respect.
In Week 1, Pittsburgh’s offense did an overall solid job of moving the ball and eating up the clock, but the defense had trouble dealing with Peyton Manning and the no huddle offense that Denver ran.
Ben Roethlisberger finished 22-of-40 for 245 yards and two touchdowns, but he threw an interception late in the game and was sacked five times. His final QB rating was 79.7.
The running game wasn’t working either. In all, the Steelers ran for 75 yards on 26 yards for a poor YPC average of 2.9. Jonathan Dwyer led the team with 43 yards and should be in line for a large workload this weekend against the Broncos.
Considering New York’s Mark Sanchez is nowhere near as talented as Manning, we can expect a better defensive showing from the Steelers.
Troy Polamalu and the gang won’t be pleased at all with how they did against the Broncos, who scored 31 points in total, including 17 in the fourth quarter. This defensive unit is going to come out hard and will be pressuring Sanchez all game long.
The Steelers simply cannot afford to drop another game and go to 0-2 for the season. After this game they’ll travel to play the Oakland Raiders and will then have a BYE in Week 4. They need to build up some momentum heading into that week off.
Look for a much better all-around effort from Pittsburgh here this weekend against the Jets.
