Andrew Luck and the Colts invade Pittsburgh in what should be a good contest for both teams to see how they’ve progressed from week 1 to week 2 in the preseason. For the Steelers, they are looking to get much more consistent and finish drives on offense. On defense, young talent with get significant experience as the battles for cornerback and nose tackle continue. Depth all across the defense will be tested and Coach Tomlin is looking for his young guys to step up and make a name for themselves.
- Isaac Redman, James Harrison*, Jason Worilds*, Casey Hampton, Max Starks, Rashard Mendenhall will not play. We should point out that while no one other than those on the PUP* list were ruled out as late as Saturday, it’s unlikely that Max Starks, or Isaac Redman will see any action. Redman should return to the lineup next week and Starks will continue practicing as he gets back in game shape. Rashard Mendenehall, Casey Hampton, aren’t ready to return yet after just coming off the PUP.
- Updated as of 6:30pm EST, Steveson Sylester is now out, and will miss 3-4 weeks with a tear in the medial collateral ligament in his knee, as reported by the Pittsburgh Post Gazette
- As far as the quarterback rotation Tomlin said they are going withBen Roethlisberger as the starter, Charlie Batch and Jarred Johnson, with veteran Byron Leftwich not playing.
“I’d like for them to play about twice as long as they did last time out,” said Tomlin. “That’s always a general reference but I always reserve the right to change it based on circumstance, performance, time of possession and things of that nature.”
The main goal of this game, besides no more injuries, is to see the starters on offense get a few good drives in and finish off with touchdowns instead of field goals. With so much emphasis on the run game in week 1, Todd Haley may go to more of the pass this week and see how his group handles it.
On defense, how will the linebackers do, especially with so many young players being rotated in regularly to see who can make the most impact. In the secondary, all 3 young cornerbacks, Keenan Lewis, Cortez Allen, and Curtis Brown will play most of the game. This is a good test to see which one or ones starts to separate themselves a bit more. Watch Alameda Ta’amu especially on the defensive line to see how he handles his blocks and keeps his gap occupied.
This game is televised nationally so most fans should be able to get it on NBC, but you aren’t able to watch it be sure and Listen Live to Tunch, Wolf, and Bill right here on SteelerAddicts!
