We originally posted up this info this morning as soon as the news broke that Hines was going to hold a press conference. As it turns out it was indeed what we all thought, he has officially announced his retirement from the NFL and will retire as a Pittsburgh Steeler.
We wanted to do right by Hines and not just throw up an article quickly just to get it out there.
So we’ll have a full article writeup tonight that will include lifetime stats, transcript highlights, pictures, videos, thoughts about about the great Hines from the Steeler Nation, and much more.
Hines Ward announced that he will be speaking to the local media today from the Pittsburgh Steelers Headquarters at Noon. No other details were given but obvious speculation has Ward announcing his retirement from professional football after 14 seasons all with the Steelers’ organization.
Ward was released from the team in late February in a cost-cutting move that many saw coming simply because of his contract. Although Ward made it clear to the Steelers that he was willing to play for less money, the team still felt the time was at hand to part ways.
The Steelers’ all-time leader in receptions and one of only eight receivers to reach 1,000 receptions, Ward was obviously disappointed that he would not be back with the Steelers but claimed he still had some football left in him. With the free agency period well underway, Ward has received little or no attention from any of the other 31 teams in the league. Therefore it seems logical that Ward will indeed announce his retirement today ending one of the great careers in Pittsburgh professional sports.
