Just something to keep on your radar, mark your calendars, or file away as you see fit; the dates for the Steelers Organized Team Activities (OTA’s) was made known today. The annual offseason owners meetings are always very informative for things of this nature.
According to insider Alby Oxenreiter, Sports Director for WPXI-TV (NBC) in Pittsburgh, via twitter: @albyox: The #Steelers will hold their 10 OTAs between 5/22-6/14, coinciding almost exactly w/ the NHL’s Eastern Conf & Stanley Cup Finals. #Penguins
The new CBA that was ratified last year between the NFLPA and the Owners stipulates that each team can have a maximum of 10 OTA’s per offseason. That’s down from the previous number of 14. The offseason program in total is now just five weeks long. welcome to the new NFL…
These offseason workouts are the first time that newly drafted rookies, free agents, and the team as a whole can get together and begin putting the pieces in place for the upcoming year. The groundwork that’s laid down during these sessions is expanded upon once training camp starts and then put into action in preseason.
These sessions are not open to the public but the media generally has access to the players and some of the coaches after each of the sessions.
