It’s being reported this afternoon by the Pittsburgh Trib’s Mark Kaboly that former Head Coach of the Indianapolis Colts, Jim Caldwell met with Mike Tomlin this morning for an interview over breakfast.
Just got tip that Tomlin had breakfast at Omni William Penn this morning with Jim Caldwell. Source told me “95 percent sure” it was Caldwell - MarkKaboly_Trib - Mark Kaboly
Before taking over as the Colts Head Coach in 2009, Caldwell was the Coach of Wake Forest from 1993-2000. He was with Tony Dungy in 2001 on staff with Tampa Bay before following Dungy to the Colts and has remained with the team ever since. If this comes down to being true it would make sense from the ties that Mike Tomlin had with Tony Dungy, who I’m sure he’s talked too about the potential of bringing in Caldwell to run the offense.
Equally as intriuging are the reports that Arians may be on his way to Indianapolis to take over the Colts coordinator job. You may remember that before joining the Steelers, BA was with the Colts as Peyton Manning’s first QB Coach.
XTRA 910 Arizona’s Mike Jurecki reports former Steelers OC Bruce Arians is expected to accept the same position in Indianapolis. Jurecki likely has the news because Arians was under consideration to be the Cardinals QBs coach. A notoriously pass-first play-caller, Arians would be an intriguing mentor for presumptive No. 1 pick Stanford QB Andrew Luck. Coincidentally, rumors surfaced Saturday that former Colts coach Jim Caldwell was meeting with Steelers coach Mike Tomlin with regards to replacing Arians.
As of about 3pm this afternoon, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that BA will join Indy as their new OC.
Again this is all speculation right now but certainly is something to keep an eye on.
