Dawson, Bettis, among finalists for 2012 Hall of Fame

Steelers Running Back and current 6th all time leading rusher along with All Pro Center Dermontti Dawson are among the 17 finalists for the 2012 Pro Football Hall of Fame class.

» Jerome Bettis, RB — 1993-95 Los Angeles/St. Louis Rams, 1996-2005 Pittsburgh Steelers

» Dermontti Dawson, C — 1988-2000 Pittsburgh Steelers

Bettis retired after the Steelers won Super Bowl XL in Detroit, finishing 5th in NFL history at the time in rushing yards. He has since been passed by the Jets Ladainian Tomlinson, and is now 6th all time. Bettis finished with 13,662 yds in his career that started with the St. Louis Rams and finished with the Steelers. Without question Bettis had the majority of his success in Pittsburgh as he led the “3 yds. and a cloud of dust, ground and pound” offense that then Head Coach Bill Cowher loved to run.

“Dirt” Dawson, known as the best Steelers Center since the late Mike Webster. He played in 184 games in his career, starting 181 of them. Regarded as one of the best Centers in his era, he revolutionized the position with his ability to pull on running plays and get out in front of the running back to lead block.
