DWTS will benefit from the Steeler Nation

Will you watch ABC’s Dancing with the Stars, now that Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward is on the show?  Don’t be shy, it’s ok to say yes!  Ward is being paired up with Kym Johnson for the series that will begin on March 21.

Hines definitely seems to be enjoying himself, “Five hours a day. Monday through Saturday, off on Sunday. An hour break, maybe. It’s very strenuous. I’m doing the best I can and I’m having a blast.”   “I’ve never done ballroom dancing or stuff like that,” said Ward.

On the Steeler Addicts forums, most people don’t have a problem with Ward doing the show.  Nosing around on other sites to see what others say, overall most fans don’t necessarily like the show but many have said they will watch it for atleast as long as Ward is still there.  During the offseason, any chance Steeler fans can get to see to the players, they will generally take it.  I will watch it, I make no excuses either. I’ve ballroom danced before and it’s actually quite fun and good exercise.  I haven’t done it in quite awhile though but I can still appreciate it, and since Ward is on the show I will support him 100%. It doesn’t make you any less of a man if you dance, or *gasp* watch the show & even vote.  The professionals that the celebrities partner up with are extremely talented and take their careers very seriously. It’s no easy task to survive week to week, let alone win the whole thing and claim that tacky mirror ball trophy.  I’ve always wondered how they don’t have something better as a prize, but oh well, I’m not one of the millionaire execs at ABC so what do I know?

Anyways, viewership will most definitely increase this coming season for the show, the Steeler Nation is world wide and stronger than ever.  We support our team and it’s players in virtually any endeavor they undertake. Ward is enjoying himself, it’s something he wants to do, and with any luck he might even do well so who are we to criticize? That’s good enough for me. It’s been proven with football players especially, they don’t have to be the greatest dancer to thrive on the show.   Jerry Rice was on the show in season 2, and found himself being the runner up finalist.  Suffice it to say, having watched the show at that time, that Rice was not a great dancer but the NFL faithful kept voting him through week after week.  Cowboys running back Emmitt Smith did end up winning season 3, and as my wife put it, “that dude can dance”.

So yeah, go ahead and tune in, if for no other reason than it gives us a chance to watch one of our favorite Steelers during the offseason.  Who knows, perhaps Ward will have found a career after football… ;)
