Lebeau assures Steeler fans he’ll only coach in Pittsburgh

Adam Schefter of ESPN broke a story last week shortly before the Championship games, that Steelers Defensive Coordinator and 2010 Hall of Fame inductee, Dick Lebeau’s contract was due to expire after this season.  This is nothing new, he’s been on a 1 yr deal for the last several years. With Coach Dad now at 73 years of age it just makes sense to let him take it year to year.  There wasn’t a Steeler fan alive that actually thought Lebeau would leave the Steelers at this stage of his career. Something I also replied to Schefter about in Twitter as soon his tweet came up.

Rumors were/are somewhat rampant that Cardinals Head Coach and former Steelers Coordinator Ken Whisenhunt may try to raid the Steelers coaching cabinet to try and improve his own sub par franchise.  Rest assured Steeler fans, our beloved Dick Lebeau isn’t going anywhere.     “I promise you, if I’m coaching, it will be the Pittsburgh Steelers,” LeBeau said as the team prepared for the Feb. 6 Super Bowl against the Green Bay Packers.

Now, Whisenhunt may very well try and gain permission from the Steelers to talk to assistants Keith Butler, Linebackers Coach or Ray Horton, Defensive Backs Coach. Butler is well known as being considered the likely heir apparent to the vaunted Steelers defense when Lebeau finally decides to hang it up. In this fans logical opinion, the Steelers likely would not give permission for the Cardinals to speak to Butler for that reason as well as the fact that he just signed a new deal last year.  Butler turned previous offers last year for Coordinator jobs. Horton on the other hand was already considered for the Cowboys Def. Coor. job so he could be a candidate for the Cardinals or any other team.

Either way Steeler Nation, Lebeau will retire a Steeler!
