Here are the latest happenings with the team as they head off to Dallas for the Super Bowl:
Center Maurkice Pouncey is out of his hard cast and into a soft boot. He’s listed on the official injury report for this week as questionable. I wouldn’t suspect he’ll practice even if he is able until later next week. Pouncey already knows the offense and he’ been in on all the meetings so he’ll be fine as far as the game plan goes.
Defensive end Aaron Smith (triceps tendon) and safety Will Allen (sprained knee) were listed as questionable. Smith, who has not played since Week 6, has not participated in a practice since his injury and is not expected to play in the Super Bowl. We were all holding out hope that Smith could return for the Super Bowl, but unless the Steelers are playing opossum on this, he’ll be on the sidelines. Allen is a big special teamer and has vowed he is going to play.
Troy Polamalu and Bryant McFadden both missed practice on Friday, as did Emmanuel Sanders. All are listed as probable and will play in the game. Troy has been doing this routine for most of the year, so you can bet he’ll be ready.
About 18,000 rabid Steeler fans turned out on Friday night for the pep rally in Pittsburgh to send the team off as only the Steel City can do it! Live music, player introductions, and a replay of the AFC Championship Game highlighted the festivities as fans waved their towels loud and proud!
The Steelers will depart for Dallas on Monday, and the famed Media Day is on Tuesday at 11am. It will be televised live and of course be scrutinized over and over in the days leading up to the game.
